I’d be honored to do anyone’s yard…..
I have more opportunity to promote and educate individuals about what landscape architecture is by working in residential than all the commercial, institutional,
educational, parks and recreational and urban design projects combined
And believe me I’ve done a lot of all those in the pas 40years of practice,…[Read more] -
STEPHANIE Landregan FASLA LEED posted an update in the group
L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 10 years, 8 months agoBob, not everyone has access to someone like you! And the LARE prep classes were started to tackle how to teach more than one candidate at a time. I would say most of the LARE prep providers are doing this for the same reason you do, but they can’t do it for free.
The world is different from when you took the UNE, so is medicine and other…[Read more]

Our profession exists within our current society. Our profession is made of the current people within it and not by what is written about it or of the people that were in it in the past It is not separate. Many in our profession seem to think that it is populated with droids from a past culture who are separated from today’s society and valu…[Read more]

Alan, Totally agree with your statement. LEED does have certifications that take into account TI work only.
The argument that new programs and certifications is not germane to our profession because some of us managed to carve out a career without any certifications beyond state licensing is either not interested in how the LA profession is pr…[Read more] -

Thanks for the comments. I had a great time in the Niagara area. Didn’t end up going to Rochester and didn’t spend much time in Buffalo, but I did visit the Martin House (FLW), Delaware Park (Olmsted) and several restaurants to sample authentic wings. Some highlights of the trip were hikes at Letchworth State Park (voted #1 state park in the…[Read more]

Thanks Kene. I don’t need any services now but may in the future if a particular project comes through. I’ll take a look at your website.

Photoshop and Sketchup. I have some experience with them but occasionally need professional renderings showing before and after concepts, for example a streetscape plan.

Well, How did I live without them all these years??? I guess the same way I have lived without asla for decades….
Still not interested in the opinions of interlopers in my profession arguing the merits of unnecessary programs… -

So true. -

Thanks ida. Alan, come on now. Mark said it, Play Nice. Stick to the issues.
OK LEED. Is it arbitrary? The benchmarks are taken from existing standards from an array of municipalities, associations, agencies, etc. – or local regulations per the project’s location, whichever is most stringent. Hardly arbitrary. Maybe sometimes not the most…[Read more]

this is supposed to be a forum for landscape architects, at least it used to be.
did that get changed ? does everyone get a trophy now? -
ida replied to the topic Sustainable Sites in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 8 months ago
I’m not sure why we’re all picking on Linda. She said nothing offensive IMHO. She offered useful information about LEED. And whether or not she is an LA or not has no meaning. This forum should be about sharing different ideas, not about showing how big of a stick you carry.

OK everybody, play nice. Was not my intent to cast any aspersions with my original post but I do believe LEED primarily benefits the USGBC and is only marginally effective in doing what it’s supposed to do—save energy. And I believe it’s overly complicated otherwise it wouldn’t need accredited professionals to rate sites and buildings. Overl…[Read more]
