I’m sorry to hear this. LEED projects *should* follow an integrated project delivery method, in which the full team works together from day 1. Being brought in for only six weeks, and being told how to design rather than you contributing as an equal collaborator, should not have happened, so the process you experienced was flawed. It was not true…[Read more]

Again, let’s stick to the issues. No one person’s CV bares significance here. Whether I’m a PLA licensed in three states who believes good outcomes are possible from SSI, a PE considering going back to school for an MLA, or an emerging LA professional who is working toward licensure – what does it matter? I was merely wondering who is e…[Read more]

look, it’s ok…we were all young and impressionable at one time…
so are you a landscape architect? -
Linda Ashby replied to the topic Sustainable Sites in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 8 months ago
I am not “another non landscape architect,” and I am not “telling you what to think.” Beyond that, let’s just stick to the issues.

it means whatever you think it means….by the way, where is your registration Linda?
Or, are you a another non landscape architect on here telling us what to think?
That would be one definition of encroaching…. -

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 10 years, 8 months agoWhen the new format was instated, the record holder fee covered a whole year, so that you could save a little bit of money by attempting to take the exam sections either together or as Tony did, a week apart without a “new” application fee. I like Tony’s suggestion. Rebooting takes about a week, and with the window for exams, could easily be…[Read more]

Alan and Mark, what does “trying to encroach on the real pros” mean? And to whom are you referring, “those without credentials something to put behind their names”?

Linda Ashby replied to the topic Sustainable Sites in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 8 months ago
Perhaps, perhaps not. But landscape architects are not the only ones who work in the built environment. At the very least maybe you can agree that SSI – and LEED, etc – raise awareness of critical issues and landscape-based solutions to a wider audience of professionals and CLIENTS? Can’t you agree that systems and plaques entice more prop…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 10 years, 8 months agoHi Tony. After attending a review session by Matt Mathes last year, it was recommended to take 1 & 2 together and 3 & 4 together. This was because there was a certain amount of overlap between these sections which made for better studying. I took 1 & 2 on back to back days last year in December due to the distance I had to travel to take the ex…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 10 years, 8 months agoHello Tony, When I took the old format Sections A & B, I did so on consecutive mornings. Those exams aren’t as long as Sections 3 & 4, so this can be done. When I used the same strategy on the new format Sections 3 & 4, I failed Section 4 by a little bit, retook it by itself in the next exam cycle and passed. Good luck to you!

Hi John!
I think this was a great question and one I’d like to see get some engagement. What are firms using for lead generation in 2015? -

I think the best avenue here is working with landscape design/build firms. Many of these companies—especially those with revenues in the $2.5-4M range—need educated designers to handle fluctuating demand throughout the season.
Many of the lower revenue companies are always looking for professionals who are proficient in computer drafting and 3d…[Read more] -

Also an Olmsted plan (https://www.bfloparks.org/)…
I think Joy Kuebler’s done some neat work in the area (http://www.jklastudio.com/) -

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 10 years, 8 months agoI’m looking to take Sections 1 & 2 during the December session, as I’ve read many people do. It is unclear when people say they took sections “together” if they are taking both sections back-to-back in the same day or spacing it out over the course of the examination window. One has the advantage of less time off work, the other gives time to…[Read more]

Sustainable Sites Initiative has not been subsumed by LEED. GBCI is the third-party administrator for both LEED and SSI, which are independent rating systems intended to make schools, buildings, landscapes, communities healthier, happier places for the long term. Many do not consider them “BS marketing strategies”, it is a shame that you do.

Hi Alan,
I detect some latent curmudgeonly tendencies in your response. But that’s OK—takes one to know one! I also agree 100% with your viewpoint. Used to be just LEED, then Sustainable Sites came into vogue (apparently subsumed by LEED), then it was/is Green Globes (green industry’s version of the Golden Globes?). So I’m wondering what the lates…[Read more] - Load More
