I’m not saying one thing or another about nerds. What I’m saying is about us. I believe that most of us know our client’s needs and address them and never bother categorizing them as nerds or anything else. If we do what we are supposedly trained to do, it all processes out. There is no need to have a contingency plan for nerds or anyone else if…[Read more]

So you are saying nerds prefer to experience their environments via their devices rather than simply just looking/smelling/hearing? If that’s what people want, I suppose we can introduce more interactive elements such as a digital wall that responds to a person’s NFC-enabled smartphone… I don’t know, what are your ideas?

Good point, I was certainly addressing a larger scale than residential design. I was thinking more about public spaces and AER. And then beyond that into how they can share, navigate to, and be encouraged to use. And then a little bit of dreaming about what more could happen there.
I’ve made such an extreme categorization of people to prove a poi…[Read more] -

We used to list “activities-experience-requirements” (AER) in school. What are the activities that nerds have? What are the experiences that they want to derive while having those activites? What are the physical requirements necessary to make thaose happen?
I don’t list those out like I did in school, but I process them just the same whether I’m…[Read more] -

Than before the crash sure, but it’s still been a general decline, correlating to increase in technology based recreation. An article, though written in 2006, still has some value and a point: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0301479706000491
Yes those those thrifty/outdoorsy means of recreation are rising. But that doesn’t me…[Read more] -

I’m a big believer in low overhead when you are starting out. I’m not as big a believer that such a website needs to have as many bells and whistles. I have used a cheap template web hosting which costs me about $100 a year – Lycos Tripod. I’m fully in control of it. While it might not be a great web site, that is because of me – I seldom update…[Read more]

WordPress is the way to go. It is easy and can be changed quickly without paying someone. It is what I use and have never had trouble.
Beyond that there are plenty of free themes that can get you started.
Then at a later date you can always develop more with a web design company.
I use hostgator for my hosting and domain registration. Don’t pay…[Read more] -

Rob Halpern replied to the topic container plants-winter care in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 13 years, 10 months ago
So much depends on the details: what is the winter like there? (Where?)
Is the spot particularly windy?
Are the containers large enough to include insulation (if temperatures get especially low)?
Can the containers be moved easily so they may be clustered together as part of a protection protocol?
Are the perennials especially hardy species (and…[Read more] -

If you do not know much about an area’s environment or a subject yourself it may be an idea to pencil your idea into a sketch then seek help from someone who does know stuff. A gardener would say you can remove whole trees if you have storage, leave them out in all weathers if roots are protected from frost and you can protect foliage with fleece…[Read more]

Akinyinka, really great art work you have going on here, along with the projects.
Have you thought of where you are going to apply yet and do you know what kind of work they do? This can be a good way to narrow down on the amount of items that you add to your portfolio.
I would personally suggest adding at most 5-6 of your best projects, leaving…[Read more] -

I had a look at your portfolio. You have a lot of interesting work but I think that you are likely showing too much. I would try to focus on 8-10 projects rather then showing all of your work. Also, it is 40+ pages and I am noticing from the download that the file size is rather large. I recommend trying to keep the file size below 5 mb whi…[Read more]
