Can you please expand on the “healing garden” reference. I think I am either missing something or paranoid. BTW I love your sketches. Great talent.

Dear Land8Lounge Member,
I just come across an outstanding watercolor artist Jack Tia Kee Woon, his paintings are incredibly phenomenon. Each painting is so alive, colorfully glow with all six colors, and loosely expressed in style of its own. I upload 4 of his painting under photos. There are over 60 of his masterpieces on my web site at [Read more] -

I have another idea. Perhaps all unemployed LAs should go to Wall Street and do something like PARK(ing) http://rebargroup.org/parking/That would be awesome! haha…don’t know if you would have time to set something up before being tackled and sprayed. But hot d*mn…that would be an awesome protest and representation of landscape architecture.

It sounds like the UK suffers from the same disease as the US. Everyone is waiting for someone to cause a situation in which we can thrive instead of looking to meet existing needs of other private people. …. you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

I graduated in May and was lucky enough to have one of my professors pass my name along to a long time friend of his who was looking for someone to join their design and build company. I have been one of the lucky ones. My fellow classmates have not been so lucky. Of the 20 or so of us that graduated just a handful have been able to find em…[Read more]

Craig, thanks for your support from the bottom of my heart. I just returned from teaching several workshops in New Zealand and Australia, it is so comforting to know that every attendee has found their new confidence and knows how to be loose in hand graphics. Taking the fear of drawing out of people’s career is our specialty after all.

Dear Deryn, I am so glad to hear what you have to say about our popular workshop that has changed many people’s lives. We are not perfect and will continue to seek for the refinement, but so far we have pleased over 98 % of the designers from around the world, a great record that isn’t easy to maintain.
Not for a moment, we didn’t think of how t…[Read more] -

I think this is a strange time in history. I highly suspect that we will look back one day and be shocked at how bad this has really been. I think depending where you live, the recession looks worse. I’m sorry you are feeling so discouraged, it is only natural that after so long you would feel hopeless. 🙁 Grab that bear spray like someone else mentioned!

“People -despite their artistic pretentions, their sophistication, and their many accomplishments – owe their existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.” (don’t know the author – my soils prof had this posted on the wall with many other soils-related quotes…thought this was really good/true and does apply to l.a.)

Interesting, and I hope you get some British comments from those more familiar with the situation. In a way, the country’s war experience and perhaps higher density has led to more progressive ideas on preservation as you describe them, compared to the US….but just a quick thought, it sounds a lot like you hope for a windfall….similar to how…[Read more]

I try to curb myself from universal-state-of-things comments because I read too much market conditions background info. and it’s scary. We may revive (economy and profession) but I don’t’ think it’s going to be any time soon…and LA can’t very well pull out ahead of the general background conditions by some magic formula. Of course “how to cope…[Read more]

Sound like you have a lot of confidence yourself and maintain good graphic skills, where I can buy your upcoming book and do you have a place so I can take your workshop? I may be able to learn something from you. I feel I always have rooms for improvement.

I’d like to think that in these times of over extended budgets and lots of societal needs, municipalities would put their efforts and resources toward those direct needs and let others undertake the effort to facilitate fun projects to generate ideas.

Wise words.
And a possible outcome is successfully selling the profession and losing the job to another L.A. -

Sell yourself instead of the profession. If you are the right firm for the job, you’ll win every time.
The alternative is to sell the profession and then to associate yourself to that profession.
That makes it a two step process. You’ll have to convince them that the entire profession is better for this project than the entirety of those o…[Read more] - Load More
