One of my former guys is in China, working for AECOM, and he seems to be happy, based on his facebook posts. I think he’s in Shenzen. I could give you his contact info if you want to ask him directly.
You might also want to look up Walter Bone on here as he’s been in Macau for a few years. He used to head up an LA dept. with a civil firm…[Read more] -

In response to the original question (I haven’t read all the comments); My advice for an entry level position is that if you cant find work in a traditional ‘office’ situation, don’t ever ‘plan’ on being unemployed; by all means, plan on being employed in some peripheral aspect of this profession or aligned profession that will continue to p…[Read more]

if you dont have a family or kids to support at this time, go, go, go… it will change your life. work a few years and come back, you’ve got nothing to lose anyway. see other parts of the world, learn some of the lingo, eat their food, get involved with the profession there, spread…[Read more] -

Thanks for the positive comments guys, we need to hear from the senior landscape architects, the veterans! like craig and mark, be nice to hear from others, as you guys are the ones we listen to (or i do anyway). I read a post on here the other day saying landscape arch a dying profession, what a load of crap, these people need to look internally…[Read more]

right, the oil market makes sense…I recomend Antonia Juhaz, The Tyranny of Oil.. I have friends who are in the stock market, and I cannot understand how they sit around geussing what the market is reacting to, while sitting in Virginia…If you are not on Wall Street, you can’t even begin to geuss what is going around, andeven they don’t know,…[Read more]

You and I can win in the stock market… you just need to educate yourself. Right now you look at it and see chaos… change your perspective. Stop thinking emotionally and think logically. If you trade with emotion, like most people gamble, you will lose. If you understand that markets have patterns that are created by cause and effect…[Read more]

Thanks for your comments Thomas!…and point well made as to what one of the greatest landscape architects of all time would do, and did. And thinking about it, Kiley did just fine.

For “sexy” perspectives I like to use a lot of silhouettes of curvaceous women in various seductive poses… it really helps to sell the design, when you can distract the client from the design it self… if you can, place the figures behind frosted glass, fabric screens or sheets of water. Those elements really set the mood…
Ok, seriously…[Read more] -

Don’t get stuck taking a 3 credit “math-mod” class your final semester that should theoretically require a 9 hour commitment a week but in fact requires a 40hr/wk commitment in order to pass… on-line/digital classes are a scam… they are profitable for the school at the expense of the students education… I passed but I don’t remember a damn…[Read more]

Because sitting around all day drawing pretty pictures, watching the stock market make your money for you sounds like a nice set-up… You’re not going to get rich being an LA but you might get rich sitting at your drafting table making an income in LA and keeping an eye on the market. Plus, you don’t “take” financial advice and follow it…[Read more]

Also, I would think portfolio piece for future employers. I read your post about not seeking employment but gathering experience. I am going for a purely logical standpoint. 1.) logistic practicality – make sure that whatever project that you choose is one that you have direct physical access to in order to research, can gain interviews or other direct contact with those involved in similar projects, and that you have the equipment and ability to execute whatever the product of your project is.
