Someone has been to Detroit once and uses it for the bases of an insightful discussion, thinking they know the world. Detroit was depressing you say? You saw what you wanted, that simple. Fact is you could have learned a lot about the world while you were here. You may never visit a more worldly city in your life. Reality is a weird thin…[Read more]

Ah unions. I am actually a member of one right this very second, and as such know both the ups and downs. The up side is that as I work my way through school at a Grocery store I get such things as health insurance, and the knowledge that I make more then the worker over there at target. Which allows people at my store to actually support…[Read more]

What could be better for a profession that already has few people willing to pay for its services than to make it more expensive? What better way would there be to get more of those of you who can’t find jobs now to land jobs than to make it more expensive for someone to hire you?
I thought the drugs were good back when I was in school, but…[Read more] -

Are you sure that wasnt just your proctor, we wore watches and heard nothing about not being able to use them. How else will you time the vignettes?

It will be interesting to see if any animosity towards the installation arises. That would be a fantastic element to analyze! Thanks for the thoughts.

I’m not sure how well this will go-over. I mean, who goes on vacation to be guilt-ed to death? Isn’t half the point of staying in hotels to waste water? I mean, why pay $300 a night if not to take extra-long hot showers with those sweet “rain” shower heads and to leave the water running while I shave and brush my teeth… nothing says “luxury”…[Read more]

“The concept of unionizing the profession was discussed in this forum a couple years ago, and was savagely beaten to death in the ensuing 3,578 responses. I have no doubt that will happen again.”
Hhhmmm… I thought this kind of not-so-subtle threat was reserved for use by unions to persuade it’s members which way to vote. 😉 Do you mean to say…[Read more] -

please see Paul Krugmans article in today’s NYT – “the unions are backing down on benefits” as usual..And the “financial melt-down was caused by the increasing power of the oligarchy”…
duh!
don’t be anti-union guys – it is intolerably ignorant…http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/21/opinion/21krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion

In China and India because our corporations are allowed to outsource work, creating the same working conditions abroad that US unions protested while paying foreign peasants under a dollar a day. I remember back in the 80’s and early 90’s sweat shops were a major issue. It’s all you heard about on the news. Now a days we’re happy to turn a blind…[Read more]

what the heck is so bad about unions? I can’t relate..I think it is just Glenn Beck ignorance that has promoted out societal inabilty to UNDERSTAND what unions do for workers, which we ALL are..We need them now more than ever! Union participation is at the LOWEST it has ever been in this country, so to blame anything on UNIONS is like Rumsfeld…[Read more]

My second paragraph clearly states my distaste for unions, at least in their current form. They’ve outgrown their britches and a symbiotic relationship that is not in the best interest of the citizens has developed between unions and the political party they contribute to, who then in turn cater to the unions. It’s gotten out of control and has…[Read more]

wow, Alan and Denis must be young! it is a huge canard that the unions destroyed the auto industries..The auto industries were destroyed by their inabilty to respond to gas prices, and to change their idea of a car from the ford pick-up to something that appealed to urban residents and women – they are doing it again, I note with dismay, looking…[Read more]

Bad Idea. If ASLA was a strong functioning body a lot of your issues would be resolved. But a Union? Oh hell no!!
