Hey Tanya,
I agree.. there were a couple vignettes that seemed really straightforward! I thought surely I was missing something. I was feeling really good, and actually doing well time-wise (which I could not believe)…. then I got to the double vignette…. Oh man.Ugh. When I first glanced at the test, I had not realized that that one was a d…[Read more] -

Number one skill: interview well
Number two skill: interview well
Number three skill: interview well
Number four thru seven: don’t smell bad, be well groomed, design/tech skills and experience
Most people are incredibly bad at interviewing, and I believe it is because they are convinced they don’t have any training or skills for it . This is n…[Read more] -

The biggest thing that gets you ahead is work experience – the chicken and the egg. Autocad is more often listed as a requirement than not (never seen a requirement for 2010, but often see Land Desk Top listed as prefered). Hand graphics are listed as a requirement at least 1/3 of the time. I more often see other programs such as sketchup, r…[Read more]

Tanya Olson replied to the topic What are the best Landscape Architect qualifications and trainings to get ahead? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 5 months ago
Hey Chad – do you market yourself as an irrigation designer for LA offices? One office I used to work in (CA) hired out all irrigation design work. With so many offices downsizing, your experience might be just the ticket…just an idea as long as we’re talking about marketing.

No Kidding??? You are hiking the AP?! That is totally awesome – I can hook you up with Shenandoah NP peeps if you need a food drop or a place to stay for the night, if you’re getting that far….

Hey, sorry it took me over a month to respond..
Yes I did get admitted for 2010 and they allowed me to defer for 1 year. I had the same plan as you, but got cold feet about moving to a new city without any money or a job. I am planning on saving up money while living with my parents back in Michigan until the move.
Hope that helps. Mess…[Read more] -

Sooo… what did you think? Some of the vignettes seemed so easy I was wondering if there was some instruction I missed…the double vignette was ok, but I might have messed it up by including too much information….we’ll see…Hope it went well for you!

You’ve had plant material from Holland and Italy used in the Middle East? It was able to adapt to the drastically different climate? Sorry, I know that’s not helping you. Its just a surprising thing for me to read in this post. Maybe its time for some SoCal desert nurseries to look into shipping plants your way. They have a lot of inve…[Read more]

Hi Tanya,
I agree with you legislators are always dreaming up stuff that may fix one issue and break 3 others. There are laws on the books that conflict with other laws. It is just crazy. Maybe if we forced our legislators to put a 15 year time limit on all laws it would force legislators to revisit some of the crap they threw up on the wall an…[Read more] -

MN uses CLARB to both qualify LARE candidates and administer the exam. CLARB saw it fit to allow me to sit for the exam.
