Don’t read Dan Brown! People tried to make maps from his tales – it is all fiction!
How about Roman Holiday, with Audrey the most elegant woman in the world Hepburn..that should put you in the mood..Or anything by Fellini…
and DON’T stand around in the Coliseum.

“They know that they will see another “boom” just as they knew that they would see another “slump.”
Just hearing that is relieving. I know it, I have been told before, I have said it myself. The difficult part of unemployment or employment challenges is that it can begin to feel like there is no end. but there is ups and downs good and…[Read more]

The perception of happy vs unhappy might be a bit skewed in this forum; people share frustrations, observations and challenges in this peer group for support, comiseration, ideas, debate and, yes, to share interesting links and projects. I don’t take it as reflective of general happiness at all. Dissatisfaction and discontent are the seeds of…[Read more]

Well said mark and I too share the same concerns as you. I am happy, as most people i think are. If you choose landscape architecture chances are you like living though I am slowly beginning to think that my idea of what an LA does and is capable of doing is changing before our eyes.

I am happy with the landscape Contractor that I am working for, they are a great company with a great reputation and they are helping me out anyway possible for design work.
I am not happy with the track I am on to become licensed….. I am not under a Landscape Architect ( which there seems to be no jobs under one) therefore I can not pursue my…[Read more]

The Association is like any other. Membership numbers come first. It is hard to increase membership if you are declaring the profession more stressed than others.I’d go further to say that they went out of their way to attract environmental activists by projecting part of our profession onto the whole profession. It loaded schools with activist…[Read more]

Thanks for your advice.
You are right. It is a bare minimum. and People said it’s hard to get it through if I just have two years working experience.
That’s why I am trying to further solidified my skills by asking for some books recommendations. I do competitions and free lance work but it ‘s still not enough especially with those project admin…[Read more]

I am very happy! one of the things that I have been fortunate enough to do this past few months is to take a new job with a firm that is managed by two “old dogs.” These two guys have seen the ups and downs of the iindustry since the 1960’s and have thousands of stories that are great preparation for whatever lies ahead. They know that they will…[Read more]

I would like to say that I am happy but then again I am also very frustrated. Yes the financial crisis has hit us hard and it will be a long and slow recovery and we are not there yet. I do agree with Jason’s comments in regards to the association’s response. I was hoping to get more out of them during this time but somehow they have failed to…[Read more]

The theme of your response Rick is spot on with many of my gripes with Colorado and choosing to start my ‘career’ here(the timing didn’t help). I love it here, its beautiful…..I too would like to pay over $350 to be asked if I mow lawns also….only time will tell.

Ooh, I could show you all the projects I worked on that are now abandoned construction sites!
I must concur about the Springs Preserve. It even has a sustainable design library. City Center is worth seeing for a one-of-a kind urban design…make sure you sneak out to the pool area of Aria. Its really well done. Dress nice and act like you belong…[Read more] -

I’m about to graduate (this Friday!). I have no job. I’m moving to another state due to family circumstances, so I’m not going to know anybody there. I’m happy though. I’m happy because I’ve been doing my thesis research in a city in Russia and after studying the city topo map for a couple of weeks I realized that they haven’t invented swales.…[Read more]

Jaded? Maybe. I used the phone book example in another post because I just received our new phone book. Damn if the Landscape Architecture listings aren’t Joe’s Backhoe and Landscape Architecture services. I pay over $350 per year for my license so that I may legally call myself an LA. If I was practicing medicine without a license you can bet…[Read more]
