I’ll tell you that in the past you’d be considered real sleezy if you advertised….I’m glad to find out that most don’t see that stigma any longer

I’m convinced that the newspaper or radio is not the way to go…..I have put a business card in a very nice local neighborhood magazine recently to see what happens…..I have been here 36 years and have made it pretty well on referrals for 23 years I’ve been self employed but It seems to be getting slower each year during the “Great Re…[Read more]

Yeah, I’m beginning to think that too…plus I haven’t felt ASLA’s relevence in decades….if even then. I was under the false impression that they were there to help educate the public about what we do….how’s that worked out? They have difficulty telling Us what we do….

Henry, good idea…I do perfer the high end residential market….I enjoy designing outdoor living spaces for individuals…
I got burned out on the “deadline/budget” noe one cares about the design will it be in budget and on time?????
Have you seen such an ad for LA’s in these mags?
There are a few such pubs here, maybe the publisher needs a plan. -

So, I guess if I’m just a small firm and advertise it apears that I’m just small time….I get your point.
I do wonder if tasteful ads with an educational point or two would help inform the public what we actually do ….. -

Jason, you always have well thought out input here in the lounge and I enjoy reading your posts…..
Do you think the “Corporate Firms” are avoiding a percieved sleeze factor by avoiding crass advertising?
Many of them do have big marketing departments with big budgets…

I agree about the website…however when did you see a LA firm advertise on radio or in newspaper?
I think one problem with the publics misunderstanding of what we do may be related to the fact that we don’t advetise in the commercial world.
In the past it has been seen in very bad taste for a professional to advertise….after all, we are so…[Read more] -

That’s cute that you feel that way….ASLA is what we thought 40 years ago would make our profession the beacon of design and innovation that it should be….
Someone in here please inform me of ASLA”s achievements in support or promotion for our profession.

Maybe since gas is going to get too expensive to drive you can remove the roadway….
Now you have a real greenway…..that’s about as practical of a suggestion yet….or if you do have several billion to spend, how abour a cut and cover tunnel for the roadway…
I do love plans like these as an exercise in creativity but at some point they…[Read more] -

I’m with you maui, this is absurd….almost as bad as the Hargreaves design for Nashville’s riverfront that we paid over $400K for an unbuildable plan….unless you have about a Billion or two or five lying around…..How much did Seattle shell out for this expert from out of town??

Brandam,
show me one time I referred to anyone as a kid….however, I am beginning to think it’s an approptiate term…maybe boy or girl….because the level of intellectualism here is obviously not adult in nature….
