Alec Johnson, PLA replied to the topic Autocad 2014 versus 2013 in the forum TECHNOLOGY 11 years ago
We were told that if we updated within three versions of our current version, we would only pay upgrade price. Beyond three versions, we would pay full software price. Therefore, for AutoCAD and all of our Adobe products we upgrade every 2 versions. I would ask your vendor to be sure.

I understand your point, but fail to see how it applies.
All tools have limitations.
Claiming the iPad is “useless for note taking or accurate sketching as the stylii tend to be as blunt and broad as a finger tip.” is an inaccurate generalization. This was my point.Off the point…really like the home page image on your website.

I hear you Robert and Jason, but I stand by my statement.
You are right – it may not be easy to get a job in an LA firm with 8+ years experience, but I believe if you shine brighter than other applicants, you can overcome that.
Win, place, or just enter a design competition or two. Design a new innovative site furnishing prototype and develop…[Read more] -

Alec Johnson, PLA replied to the topic PC vs MAC in the forum TECHNOLOGY 11 years, 6 months ago
I have a PC at my regular gig but prefer a MacBook Pro for my consulting work, which I do out of my home and a co-working space. I use AutoCad for Mac and Sketchup Pro for drafting and modeling. Artlantis and Phtotshop for 3D renderings. My MacBook has been able to handle all this and I can transfer drawings back and forth from PC with no issues.…[Read more]

Chad- I spent a couple hours last night working from home on a project drawing in AutoCad for Mac. I imported a dwg I had been working on with my work PC with no difficulty. All layers, rasters and xrefs accounted for.
The Mac interface takes a bit of getting used to, but if you can work in Cad for PC, you can work just as easily and quickly in…[Read more] -

Wow. I maintain that the title of my discussion accurately describes my conundrum. Furthermore, my description of aforementioned conundrum was specific in it’s wording. Thanks all.

Thanks Roland. This is exactly the same conclusion I reached. We already have a constructed wetland at the end of this treatment chain that I am convinced will remove 65%-90% of the bio-nasties. The grey water hits 2 rain gardens and travels 1000 lf down a swale to the wetlands. I was hoping to find factual proof that the rain gardens and swale…[Read more]

For those of you who were incensed that I question the effectiveness of rain gardens and bioswales in the treatment of grey water I challenge you to show me data quantifying removal of bacteriological pollutants. I am finding the opposite. These BMP’s do not effectively treat grey water. There is hard date showing removal of nitrogen, phosphorous,…[Read more]

I am not sure if it was the economy (lots of unemployed/under-employed LA’s), or just the desire for a new, different, alternative, and relevant landscape architecture publication, that drove the great response, but I am quite pleased.
I know I said “2” regular contributors, but I couldn’t say no to the following folks…

Thanks to everyone who has responded.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest in the project. Over 30 emails, and not all Land8Lounge members.
I have also, admittedly, been overwhelmed. I am still receiving inquiries, (as recently as 30 minutes ago as a matter of fact), and am hesitant to pull the plug on submissions today. I…[Read more] - Load More
