Great question, Holly! Regarding the budgeting feature, are you referring to a design budget for tracking hours or a construction estimation tool?

Have you checked out Dynascape? Depending on the scale of project that you work on, it might be a perfect solution.
Vectorworks is all-in-one solution that is trusted by the top designers in the world – from large studios like Peter Walker to boutique design studios like Jeffrey Gordon Smith. The product is awesome and is supported by a ver…[Read more] -

Oh, now your talking turf species! Like the additional info Craig 🙂
Yes, stolons/rhizomes are a nightmare. So, be sure to specify a bunch grass like tall fescue, rye, or bluegrass (if you can grow them in your area). Stay away from bermuda and St. Augustine! -

I’d vote for Permaloc over steel edging for a DIY project. I designed a friend’s garden and he installed it himself using Permaloc edging. It is light weight and extremely easy to assemble and install.
Steel edging is heavier and slightly more difficult to work with, but could also be installed by a DIYer. Though, I’d go with Permaloc for eas…[Read more] -

Hey David,
Jumping in kind of late in the discussion. You’ve already received a lot of great advice, so assuming you’re open to a little more – here are my two cents.
It is awesome that you have some demand for your work and expertise in architectural graphics. I wouldn’t worry about charging the right amount at this point. The ‘right’ am…[Read more] -

Hi Jay,
Great question. The contractors that I have worked with prefer working with the steel edging. It holds a nice, rigid line while remaining hidden. EverEdge, Col-Met, or Sure-Loc would do the trick.
If you go aluminum, then Permaloc is your go-to. They have a specific product called CleanLine that I believe will fit your design objecti…[Read more] -

I am assuming you are working on residential projects, correct? I used Dynascape all through college and think it is amazing. However, if you are planning to coordinate with Architects or design at a large scale, then I would recommend going with a standard like AutoCAD, then using the Land F/X add-on. Vectorworks is another great option, es…[Read more]
