I read about most of that but I didn’t see the part about eventually taking the exam every two years. Do you have a link to that information? Seems excessive…

LEED, yes good point. Looking at the requirements tho, if I read it correctly, you have to have exposure to LEED projects OR work in a sustainable field to get LEED Green Associate. LEED AP+ require you to have worked on a LEED project. So there are different tiers now. Interesting stuff.

Listed below is all personal experience:
How are your computer skills? Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation, Photoshop, PowerPoint and recently Sketchup has been a huge leg up for every job I have accepted. Although, nowadays it seems its not as hard to come by, and almost a given with every resume. You can download Sketchup from Google for free.…[Read more]

I read a lot, so forgive me for posting so many links.
Walter Williams puts it in perspective here:
http://townhall.com/columnists/WalterEWilliams/2009/01/28/there_is_no_santa
The short version is, if the government spends 800 billion, that’s 800 billion less we can spend privately. It seems so simple to me, but maybe it’s too simple.
If…[Read more]

Easy now, Claudia is talking about me Andrew. I haven’t sat for my exam yet so I can’t call myself a landscape architect.
But I don’t know if I’m more offended that she apologized to you or that she thought I was you….just kidding!

I didn’t assume you thought his letter was a solution Nick, my apologies if you thought that was the case.
I was contrasting how an architect vs an economist views 800 billion dollars in government spending.

This particular paragraph hits home:
“In the name of protecting the taxpayers’ investment, they are buying the power to tell General Motors how to make cars, banks how to bank and, before it is all over with, all sorts of other people how to do the work they specialize…[Read more]

I am looking out for your interests Claudia. I wish you and everyone on here, republican, democrat, civil engineer or mormon all the success in the world. Concern for America right now is just more important at this point in time than concern for a specific profession. But again, discrediting people to make a point, does not make your point.
This…[Read more]

Good points Andrew.
Claudia, I would enjoy discussing governement spending and the Iraq war anytime with you, you seem like a very motivated person. But its off this topic.
My whole intention of even posting a response was that ASLA, the organization that most people on this forum belong to, is rallying its troops to support what seems to be its…[Read more]

Well that was a CNN article, so I figured his republican viewpoit was cancelled out …
TARP sounded necessary, but we are talking about this economic stimulus package.
I agree with you, the smart people need to be heard, I just hope the house and senate listen to people like Coburn and Romney rather than discrediting them for their party preference.

I would not swing that broad sword of “it doesn’t do any good to cut taxes if you don’t have a job”. This is worth the read:

Its noble of the government to jump start the economy by creating jobs but what about the ones that were lost or in jeopardy of going away now? No mention of those? There…[Read more]

Is this really from ASLA? I’m not in agreement with them on this one if it is. The idea of “economic stimulus” is to get money in the hands of people and businesses right away, like in the next 6 months, so they can spend and invest it. I don’t see how building a community park or golf course achieves that. Mr. Coburn seems to be doing the right…[Read more]
