That is what I think of that. -

I totally agree Jason. I think these sorts of scenarios…if we take it at face value…actually harm the idea of thoughtful site planning. No, I don’t know anything about pruning trees…nada, zilch…and I have no problem with minimum planting requirements(that are often pretty weak anyway). But I think that as professionals in a field that…[Read more]

Well…common sense isn’t that common…haha. Really? I am a liberal in red, red Idaho and I think this is ridiculous. haha. I don’t know why we have to pull politics into this…I can’t imagine the liberal city I live in coming after people for the way they trim these particular trees. There either is a back story or it is like Mark…[Read more]

Hiya Miya Jarrod…you SHOULD read what Andrew posted…I checked out some places you are advertising services and I am pretty sure that would qualify for what…a Class B misdemeanor whatever that is…and they count every day you are guilty of advertising that.

Yes, I read the article…those things look terrible but do not look like a safety hazard at all. If they keep them that low…well…I don’t see a safety issue. Aesthetically…ugh. haha.

I am wondering what safety issues they are referring to…if there aren’t safety issues I think this is utterly ridiculous.

Funny side note: I read an article about Brad Pitt where they called him an amateur architect…haha. So I guess having the money and fame to get you an audience with well known architects and dabbling in design is now enough to make you an architect. If I was an architect this would drive me crazy…and this does nothing for their profession. I…[Read more]

Is there a degree for permaculture? I don’t think so…in fact, I would say they could not call themselves a landscape architect. Heck, they offer workshops around here…it is more geared towards food production but is that much different the researching soil type, solar aspect and proper plant selection?
Of course this is off topic…but more…[Read more] -

I do know that what it takes to be a registered landscape architect is often not covered in the curriculum of universities. I know my husband had to study new material that was not covered to the extent necessary to be an RLA. I wonder if people understand this distinction. Much of what you need to know to pass the tests is not learned at…[Read more]

In the conversation regarding your resume you do say that you will call yourself a landscape architect…as you did in your resume. Many people pointed out to you the issues you could have in doing so.

I agree with this sentiment. You don’t want to be a “robot”…start your own business. Then you can be your own boss. I understand the frustration with the economy, you have been unemployed for 8 months? I know people that have been unemployed for years…you are one out of hundreds perhaps thousands in our profession that would like a job. And I…[Read more]

I think we can look at this discussion more narrowly as Jarrod has stated he would give himself the title of Landscape Architect in his job hunt. I think he hurts his own chances in that case. I am not sure what the point of this conversation is, as he seems to think this is the way to go…so go for it. See how it works for you.

I agree with this sentiment.
Why does the employer have a swollen head? And don’t forget this is a public forum, if I was a potential boss and had run across you here I would definitely be forming an opinion of you with or without reading your resume.
Your educational bona fides will tell them everything they need to know about your training and…[Read more] -

Having a license won’t get you a job…knowing someone will.
Stating you have a license when you don’t could cause a firm to question your integrity.
People have given you a lot of great advice…my husband has written hundreds of job specific cover letters and has made his resume fit on one page.(He graduated in 2008…so his work history IS…[Read more] -

Great advertising ideas! Especially as some of our landscapes mature…Jon worked at one house last summer that will be very cool probably next summer.
I just made up a post card that I sent to a local business that was specific to them, an image of their building with an improved photo shopped entrance-haven’t heard anything but Lord they need to…[Read more] -

Yeah I could see it as a ,”we are too good for that”…sort of thing. haha. But unethical? Nah. haha.
Wanted to add we do advertise in a local Co-op paper but we are design/build with landscape architecture.

Huh? I never knew of any such thing…we definitely do advertise…I mean, does putting your name in the phone book count? In our small ethics class nothing was taught about advertising…so I have never heard of this. Our biggest challenge is knowing HOW to advertise…what will be worth the money. We certainly do advertise.
Heck, nearly every…[Read more] - Load More
