Oohh yes, remember the 7200 PowerMac I had sitting in the LA studio? Maybe not. But, I donated it in 2005 while living in Las Vegas. It finally became to slow for internet use and I maxed out on RAM and hard drive storage for it. Those were some great times, in school, huh? Work on projects with no budgets and endless time spent on it. Too bad it…[Read more]

Aloha! Unfortunately, I haven’t been back to Moscow since leaving in December 1998. I heard about all the changes on campus via my weekly Vandal email report. I lived in the LA studio, library and Art department’s McIntosh computer lab. Those PowerMacs were awesome!

Sorry I din’t mention it. The website was done using Squarespace.com as a content management application. It is kind of expensive but the control we have is wonderful. Just having control of the site, being able to update as we please is worth the $$ small site is about $9/mo ours is about $12. there is a free 30-day trial. if you decide to try,…[Read more]

I’m headed back for a football game Nov. 6th. Hope to get a chance to visit a few folks and walk the arboretum if the weather is good.

Jonathon and Peter,
I’m a new member to land8 and this group, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m a LA, owner of a D/B firm in the mid east U.S. (primarily construction), practicing for 30 years. I have an interest in sharing and learning about methods of using ordinary materials in unusual ways, and this may be a good avenue–learning and…[Read more]

Why do so-called award-winning projects never have handrails on steps with more than 3 risers?

I just got back from visiting the U of Idaho for the first time in 11 years. Lots of new (to me) stuff. I talked to Gary and Toru, but did not get back to see anyone else – lots of people to see outside of the U. Did see a few former employers (Frank Bennett and also Jon Decker) and some co-workers. …..and a lot of good friends in the region.

I was wondering what sites residential designers use to find certain products or materials. Let’s say you want to find certain types of outdoor porcelain tiles, sculptures, water features, etc. Are there sites out there that are relevant for us to use? And if so, would anyone like to share these?

Oops — just saw the link in your second post — thanks, David.
Still would be great to read the actual pub to know what was included in the study.

Wow…. and I thought my comment was long winded!
This is great, though, David. I appreciate it. It is helpful to have to have a peer reviewed pub in this conversation (it means i better try to find the one I was referencing!). And it does run contrary to the prevailing wisdom in the “green” community regarding turf. Do you have a web link or…[Read more]
