Will the school program include an Artificial grass fields?
    No.
What is the Bus Traffic-Routes (Number of Buses)

  • Excellent Todd, thanks!

Our site also has significant grade change and will likely be leed certified.

Thanks for taking the time to attach plans, much appreciated. Nice work too btw..

  • Yes, actually there is some interesting topo both on and off site. We’ll have grading and drainage issues. Interesting, sort of retro architecture and excellent views to mountains.

The site is basically a clean slate otherwise with mostly residential and open space surrounding. I’m generating program right now, so some examples of what has been…[Read more]

  • Map Pins are pretty standard. I’ve also used while working at a bigger firm on a big conceptual model-just silver pins, no heads. It’s the trunk really that needs to read, the rest is a diagram if thats where youre at..

Try the ‘competitions’ group in the groups section.

All that said, I think I’ve yet to meet someone that models as well as they design, or vice-versa. Pick your poison..

  • I was just looking at a book today on the design of Reston, Virginia.

Reston Town Center is a pretty remarkable example of comprehensive urban design and planning for an entire city/community including public spaces.

I cant tell you for sure who did the original master plan, but I know Sasaki Associates did quite a bit.

On the flip side, some firms wont consider you if you dont know rhino or max.

Ultimately, it’s all about what you want to do and be involved with. You can get better graphics sometimes without getting bogged down in max or other complicated software. Can you render a good perspective by hand/ in 2D?

If you dont understand and practice the…[Read more]

  • well, welcome back then…looking forward to seeing more of your work.

  • As I’ve stated before I think SSI will be a good way to make our work more quantifiable which is becoming increasingly important to the viatlity of the profession in this society.

  • ‘Most people believe the end of the Oil Age is coming but we disagree on when and how hard a landing it’s going to be.’

The key from my perspective is the transition. If development continues to happen as it is today with little regard for what we all agree is pending I think we’d be pretty unwise not to begin developing new models today. In…[Read more]

    I definitely see a gap.

I think there are numerous differences in the way many junior level designers view and approach the practice, especially with regard to the advent and evolution of new technology.

I was speaking with my 68 year old father the other day on the phone. He admitted he’s never seen it this bad, regarding the job market, economy, debt, etc. Even if the numbers dont stack up, I wonder if the formula doesn’t make the situation worse than twenty forty years ago?

One point I can respond to real quick..

If you look at many of the ‘entry level’ job listings poppining up sporadically. They’re typically advertised in their title as ‘entry or junior’ level or something like ‘cad position,’ but surprisingly few of them are actually zero experience jobs. Often they require more like 3+ years…[Read more]

  • Yep, this is the same thing in film format. Pollan narrates most of the film.

I just thought there was so much room for project ideas in there from the use of orchards to the interaction of humans with plants and their reproduction and commercial value. There is so much potential if only I was a student and not a job seeker.

  • Samuel,

I was accepted into the Design Workshop Summer internship program in 2007. I liken my experience that summer to a semester in grad school.

I recommend applying for ‘programs’ like DW’s or EDAW’s (not even sure if it exists anymore) as you’ll get a lot more out of it than experience sitting behind a desk making pretty drawings all day. If…[Read more]

  • Fort Collins, CO has been doing a bike sharing program for a while. They use a co-op system to get volunteers to bring in unwanted/non-functioning bicycles on weekends to an open garage and learn how to fix em up so others can use them. The co-op then paints them and slaps a serial number on them and borrows them out.

Its a good program that…[Read more]

  • It took me a minute to figure out what was going on. I had to click a few links and look at a few maps before I slowly realized what piece of ‘vacant real estate’ they were writing about.

I can understand the logic. I mean, it’s not like you ever see it on film, or anyone in the world associates it with that city.

I have been wondering why no…[Read more]

  • I think my home city of Denver has come a long way in the past decade in developing it’s light rail and mass transit system through RTD as well as commitments the mayor has made to inititives such as a million trees planted by 2010 and work featured by an array of architects and LA’s. It’s sort of an upstart big city with many options for…[Read more]
