Has anyone had any experience with the tree Saraca indica? I am getting conflicting information about its size from various refrence materials. I don’t know if it is a large tree or a small tree/shrub. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  • Hey all…LA in Kenya is stil young, we have to keep justifying ourselves more often than not. I recently started working at an engineering firm and i must say its a bit lonely.

  • A year plus ago I attended Richard Scott’s Accurate Freehand Persepective Drawing class in San Francisco and found him to be one of the clearest art teachers I’ve ever had. It was not an easy class, but he was so calm and insightful. He gave very specific instruction with steps to follow. What stands out the most is how much he enjoys what he does.

  • I was fortunate enough to take Richard Scott’s rendering classes in school at Cal Poly Pomona and a water coloring class with him in Florence.

The man is brilliant. He completely understands the art and the science of color, perspective and technique and knows how to utilize them very well. I would more than recommend taking any courses you can…[Read more]

  • Mark,
I’m taking Richard Scott’s Graphic Workshop this weekend in Philly. While I’m happy with my graphics I think its important to explore new options. I’ll let you know what I think after this weekend.

  • I’m looking for someone in this forum that has experience working for or with the firm SALCO? Are they well regarded within the landscape construction industry? More importantly, are they a good employer?

  • Hi; I m new in this group. I m working in some projects in the Emirates, but our office is in beautiful Sicily, Italy. I decided to learn the arabic language. People told me that at least in UAE you don´t need to know the language for working there, but for me It is a matter of respect, I would like to know the culture from the country / region…[Read more]

  • Does anybody have any suggestions or tips on which ME countries have the best job potential? I’m trying to figure out if work in the region is a viable option these days as my home market (Phoenix, Arizona) has stalled completely. Contacts or resource information would be more than appreciated. Thanks!

  • I work in dubai right now in G C L A, the thing is that Landscape architecture companies stopped hiring but are not firing, as a respond to the crisis, but as a company we are minorly affected some projects un dubai were terminated. Gunther its weird because our abu dhabi projects are the one keeping us up.

  • Thanks Ammar. At the moment, construction and any new development is being put on hold in Dubai. There were speculations on Abu Dhabi to be the next player in the industry with a lots of exciting ‘green’ projects coming up..

~Just abit of an updates on the current situation in Dubai~

  • Abdulkader A. Al-Gilani,

Thanks for the reference for middle eastern plants. An Illustrated Guide to the Flowers of Saudi Arabia will be added to my shelf, and will be a great help for future projects in the area.

  • Syaryzad,

The market is Saudi Arabia is good. In fact, I’m now looking for three landscape architects to work with me. • Hi guys..
I am wondering whether any of you are affected by the economical crisis at the moment? A few of my friends in Dubai were laid off recently due to the stagnant market..
Are there still market for Landscape Architect in the Middle East?

  • I am a landscape designer working towards my professional registration as a Landscape Architect. I received my BSLA from Arizona State University in May ’05 and have been working for one of the largest engineering design firms for over 3 years now. Our office has one RLA, but our supervisor is a PE. The main advantage here is that I am learning…[Read more]

  • By the way, for the January workshop 2009, if you know of someone who may need this loose and good hand skills, this may be a good time for them to join me, so please encourage them to take this opportunity for the life changing experience. Currently, I am offering $400 off the tuition to help out someone who may need this big discount to offset…[Read more]

  • I recently relocated to Iowa from Arizona. I’m the only LA in my firm and the guys here seem to understand the want for the LA side of projects. The harder sell is to the clients, especially when I don’t get put in contact with them until a plan is needed to meet city requirements. Any suggestions as to convincing the Project Manager to bring me…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I have worked in Cairo on a collaborative project with Ain Shams University architecture students. It was an amazing experience and I would love to go back…maybe someday! I am glad to have found this room so I can see all the wonderful projects you are all working on in that part of the world.
