Francis, I put my entire design into sketch up for two reasons; to actually check my design (scale, feel etc), and secondly to help do perspective sketch views.
Robert, I do see the value of hand sketches. But, it seems every time I do a sketch by hand, the client wants a different view or the design changes so now the sketch is wrong. With a hand sketch you have to start from scratch, with sketch up it is a 20 min change.
I just cannot find a style that works for landscape architecture. I can get close if I use the arch style in sketch and then use a filter in Photoshop, but I feel there has to be a better style to use.

October 7, 2013 at 2:08 am #153939Robert HaughtParticipanthave you tried land fx?
October 5, 2013 at 11:37 pm #153963Robert HaughtParticipantRobert, I was meaning that I do hand render enough to keep my skills sharp, yes I still can do it, but at least for me, it takes some time to remember all the tricks.
October 5, 2013 at 3:53 pm #153965Robert HaughtParticipantFrancis, those are very nice and what I am looking for, I am looking to do that myself. I would like to use the computer, so I don’t have to start from scratch each perspective. I am looking for a style that looks like AD markers , kind of hand drawn/colored. I know they exist, as I have seen renderings with them, but I can not find them.
Robert, I do not do enough to really be able to produce by hand.
Goustan, I would gladly do it in Photoshop, but the seem to computerized, there may be a filter?

May 1, 2009 at 1:22 pm #174325Robert HaughtParticipantEd,
I was in same boat 4 years ago, i moved down from Ohio. I actually believe that i got the wrong test the first time. All the questions were about irrigation (pump wiring)and plants in a green house? The next time i took it, it was correct and not a problem. I am trying to find my study material for you.I can tell you , to go to the DEP website and get the papers on coastal dune managment. When i find the material I will contact you again.

2. Photoshop
3. Sketchup
4. Indesign (this is for proposals and includes photoshop)April 21, 2009 at 10:24 pm #174490Robert HaughtParticipanti agree with that, but as soon as development picks back they will not hire LA’s if they can just use the PE of record.
April 20, 2009 at 1:34 pm #174491Robert HaughtParticipantAnother way the ASLA could help is to lobby states to enforce the practice acts. Almost every zoning code i see see says” plans are to be sealed by a landscape architect or engineer of record” . In most communities a engineer and/or architect can sign landscape plans.
I realize that most practice acts had to be “watered down” to get enacted, but the ASLA could start trying to strengthen these rules and thus create a greater need for landscape architects.
March 20, 2009 at 10:48 pm #174990Robert HaughtParticipantI am looking for work for the first time in 14 years. It seems firms are not hiring.
Even worse than getting let go, was the 3 months before, when i knew it might be me anytime. I am poorer let happier now? if that can make sense.March 16, 2009 at 10:06 pm #174763Robert HaughtParticipanti know of a civil that is currently going for his MBA. The company he is with said they would pay half, but because of the economy they stopped paying. Now he doesnt have enough to finish and 15 thousand dollar load to boot.
In my opinion, unless you are going to use the gained knowledge to start a company, the MBA is not worth the cost and energy. For less money and energy you could get your AICP and your LEED-AP credentials and thus more to offer a employer.
