So I spent about a week trying to insert a design into Blender’s gaming engine. The outcome worked ok, but wasn’t very pretty. The process went like this:
1. Wrote script to randomly generate terrain in Maya.
2. Made a post and cloned it, then used the vortex dynamic to blow them around the terrain.
3. Created a ncloth from a nurbs plane and…[Read more] -

I also like in the tutorial how he applied aging to the building concrete.

Of course landscape and site planning will get integrated into BIM software. It is just a question of the components getting built. They aren’t going to just stop developing the software, it may take awhile but it will happen.

I will say that the 3d pdf thing is the best way to do it if you don’t have time to learn blender.

Let me know once you get your design in. I would think you will have questions and we can try to figure it out.

Blender will import .dxf, .wrl or .3ds models from sketch up, it will accept a whole lot more types but this is what blender and sketch up have in common export/importwise. I don’t think you need python as that is the scripting language you can use to run your game. But you can just use the actuators in Blender to do that too.
Once you have an…[Read more]

I forgot to add – in blender you can then package your game as an .exe file which can be played on any computer.

Revit is similar to Archicad. They are both basically building tools and can be useful but haven’t really been developed for landscape yet. That isn’t to say they can’t be used for landscape as I have used Archicad before and found it to be pretty good.
BIM and parametrics is all in the relationships. You really end up manipulating space and…[Read more]

Use Blender. It is a free gaming engine that is pretty easy to use. There are some good tutorials available to show you how to use it. You can make leaves sway and cars move etc….. Well, it is a gaming engine so you can do whatever you are good enough to do.
Blender will give you the most power and the best results. I have imported studio max…[Read more]

I don’t have a practice so it is all experimentation but I have been using and teaching Digital Projects for a couple of years. Also Grasshopper for Rhino (which is probably the most fun) and to some extent Archicad.
I have said it a few times on here, BIM and parametric software will be the industry standard in the future so it is worth trying…[Read more]

Well, I have been away for awhile.
I have been looking at the use of Maya Dynamics to force design. It is kind of fun but I don’t know if it will go anywhere. Has anyone used
any of the dynamic functions in Maya (Airfield, Gravity, Newtonian field etc)? -
