Yeah, like a giant ball valve! The image below shows the pipe. What I wonder is; why such a shut-off valve doesn’t exist below that junction.
In the future, why not lay a pad of concrete with the all of the pluming in place. Then open the valve on the plumbing, the drill fits into the pipe, through the open valve, then drill through the…[Read more]

You should be a creative writing major!
While I like your ideas, unfortunately, I won’t be able to contribute to the national hair reef (see profile picture) which leaves me feeling a bit left out…but I say go for it!
If I were you, I might try the drinking straw approach first because you will get hairballs caught in your throat if the failed…[Read more]

TraceOne – Take your attitude somewhere else. We’re here for ideas and solutions, not half-wit criticisms…
First of all the whole hydrates excuse is just that, an excuse from BP. If the water is not frozen at that depth, why is it freezing when combined with oil in the cap. It wouldn’t. The cap just didn’t work. The tube was not big…[Read more]

TraceOne – Christo probably didn’t like you either…
Here’s my concept sketch of an oil recovery device. It’s probably too late for this event, but might be an interesting idea to develop in the future… Also, what would happen if you just placed a dome over the hole? Would 5,000 feet of water pressure keep it in place? Would the pressure…[Read more]

Thank you for your response Mr. Halpern. Yours is the voice of reason and experience. All very true…
On a side note, there is an opportunity here to create an exhibit of images from this beautiful disaster. Art may also provide solutions to the problem. We need to call in Christo and Jeanne-Claude to do a massive installation (see images at…[Read more]

Yo Nick! What up…? I know you like to get my political dander up so here’s my two cents…
1. We need oil. That’s all there is to it. Without oil the world would come to a screeching halt. In order to sustain our quality of life we need to be smart about how we use the remaining oil reserves. And you can be assured that we will extract every…[Read more]

Yeah Colorado State!! I’d like to hear about storm water management from Kevin Perry. Colorado is in desperate need of water rights reform. It’s absurd that one cannot use the water that falls on ones roof to water their landscape (ie no cisterns or rain barrels). Instead, it goes into the storm water system, back to the city so they can process…[Read more]

I’m confused by your statement “land that must remain a preserve unless I can figure out how to make it work.” It sounds like there is low lying land, that may be a wetland, that you’re legally required to preserve but that you would prefer not to. Why not incorporate this preserve into your plan or even expand on it, utilizing it for on-site…[Read more]
