Yes, Virginia does not seem to have been hit as hard as other states. Best of luck to you all.

I think the OP is in Turkey so most of those places probably don’t apply, but the principle is the same…ie. look online.

Of course, you can do even better than this online. Newegg, ZipZoomFly, Buy.com, Amazon, Tiger Direct, CompuCenter. Even Dell or HP directly, they often have killer sales. I got my HP Pavilion at Office Depot, the good sales are in August for back to school. I got a custom built loaded laptop for little more than a base model at Best Buy. Check…[Read more]

You could also buy a PC laptop; look at Asus, Gateway, HP or Alienware. For about as much as you would drop on a macbook pro you can get a KILLER mobile gaming rig (AKA graphics powerhouse!)
At Best Buy you can spend $2499 for a 17″ Macbook Pro with Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor 2.8GHz; 4GB DDR3 SDRAM; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 500GB hard dri…[Read more]

Thanks, Trace. Couldn’t agree with you more about color or texture. If you liked the blog, I’ve added a subscribe by email link on the site that allows only new postings to be emailed directly to you. I’m eager to get more feedback.
Happy planting!

THANK YOU ! Very nice blog! For my old arguing buddies on this site, please note how Mr. Rainer has NO MENTION of color or texture in his very interesting descriptions of planting designs!! Keep up the good work, Mr. Rainer!

Lots of people ask about what I’ll use with pc or mac. I am planing to use photoshop, autocad, 3ds max, sketch up, GIS and some of web designing softwares. I know that PC is able to be modificated. But I don’t have an office to work. So that I need a computer which is portable to be able work everywhere. Also I don’t have to work harder outdoor,…[Read more]

FYI, Macs run AutoCad, 3ds Max, etc. extremely well using Bootcamp. In fact, Windows Vista ran smoother on my Macbook pro in bootcamp than it did on my desktop PC. Thankfully I don’t have to use Vista anymore but all this talk about problems running windows programs with Macs is nonsense. Running parallels is a different story but i’m not getting…[Read more]

I would go PC, as everyone else has said, based on things like AutoCAD, and the fact that most firms you work in will use PCs as well.
You do also pay an extra 10-20% for that little glowing apple logo, so I would shy away from them for that reason as well, personally. As far as what type fo specs your looking for, it all depends on what you want…[Read more]

Off the top of my head (forgive me if i forget something):
–Tower case – $50 – $100 (Depending on looks, size… think ventilation)
–Power Supply – $75
–Motherboard – $120 – $200
–CPU – $250 – 350 — Spend the money here, but don’t feel like you need the newest, as there often is a gulf in price between “cutting edge” and “yesterdays CPU” that…[Read more] -

Go with the desktop, not because its a PC but because you get more bang for your buck. Laptops are nice but if you want more raw computing power at a reasonable price a desktop is the way to go. Also, don’t get caught up with RAM. You can upgrade that later for relatively cheap. 64 bit OS is a must these days as well. Ditto on the processor speed.…[Read more]

Are you running your own shop or are you looking to work for someone down the road? If you are looking to work for someone else then get used to PC, not many LA’s or architects use Macs. the advertising, graphic design world is the Mac mecca not LA ARCH ENG. What software are you running? Autocad can runn on slowwer systems but large files and…[Read more]

I think that it is important to realize that how much a designer charges is based upon multiple factors. While experience tends to be the obvious, overhead may be the most important. With all things being equal, two designers with equal experience, sales ability, etc., may charge two very different rates. Designer “A” may be have less need for a…[Read more]
