L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 16 years, 3 months agoIn answer to Amy, I took grading twice and all the other sections once. I did not try to take C and E at the same time, it seemed like asking for trouble… a guy in my study group passed E and failed C this time, go figure…!

So how do you maintain a current version of AutoCAD? I thought they were only offering it in the subscription format now. If I want to work with civil firms, more than likely I’ll need the latest version. Yeah, I don’t care for the subscription deal either. It seems to be the only way they figured out to prevent piracy of their software. So many…[Read more]

Might be interesting to find out what they are up to now. I imagine the developers have gone to China and Abu Dhabi and the lawyers are now doing bankruptcy and foreclosures.

I agree. I wrote them yesterday to find out what the national unemployment rate for LA’s is. Haven’t heard back yet. I want to start doing some advocacy for our field (stimulus money, jobs bill, etc.). I feel like ASLA is not addressing this economic downturn and the devastating impact on our profession.

Thanks so much for all the input! I will definitly check out “Mastering Autocad” for sure. Are there any resources out there specifically for LA in Auntocad? I have heard that it is quite an extensive program and one concern I have with working through a book is that it will focus on tools or functions that I won’t really need to be familiar with.…[Read more]

I used AutoCad 2000 at the last company I worked. I learned by the seat of my pants. Now I’m using 2010. There are lots of great tutorials on line. Here’s a good one: http://www.cadtutor.net/ –donate a bit to help them out.
On the program, help is much better and the tool tips for each function are really great.Anyway, I’m also taking a class…[Read more]

You’ll be getting a lot of generalizations with this question, including this one. Landscape Archiects tend to have a different and much broader education beyond that of a landscape designer. You can be good at gardening with no formal education and be a landscape designer. If you become college educated in landscape design and especially the…[Read more]

We used a template for the base scripting, but then I customized most of it to fit our ‘image’ Doing it all in dreamweaver. Thanks for the comments! It was my first site so took a little bit of learning, web is actually fun once you figure it out.

You’re website is really well done.
Did you use a template or did you build from scratch?
What program did you use to build it?
Best of luck with your business! -

Do you want the legal answer or the touchy feely answer? Legal answer… in the US…
States with practice acts (45) require a license to practice landscape architecture.
States with title acts (4) allow anyone to practice landscape architecture, regardless of their qualifications, but only those with a license may use the title “landscape a…[Read more] -

After getting all this feed back, are firms that are still working doing predominantly government work. I used to work on developer driven projects but it has flat-lined.

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 16 years, 3 months agoCongratulations Brandon, anyone who has taken Section E multiple times (including me) shares your sentiments. I passed after 7 times. After the second or third time I thought I would never get by Section E. I just couldn’t bring myself to quit. After passing, last June, I have just now sent in my application to take the CA supplemental. I too…[Read more]

No, 1.5 years.
When I was first laid off I was still a member of ULI and was in a Young Leaders group with all developers and a few lawyers. They all said It would turn around within the next few months and I said no way. That was a year ago. I don’t things will get better until next year.
