“Anatomy of a Park” is the book that was used to teach these concepts when I was in school. Are you familiar with that? I think it had good information, although I do not design parks.

nca replied to the topic Why Do You Hate New Urbanism? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 16 years, 3 months ago
Sure, I think you could argue that the govt has indirectly subsidized the real estate and housing construction industry for some time. I agree that the government or the American popular culture encourages and sometimes incentivizes home-buying and growth away from urban centers. Bu I think this is a bigger and separate issue.
I dont necessarily…[Read more]

I think there are lots of different types of ‘parks’ or public space whether the context is more urban or less developed. A National Park in the United States, for example, might rely almost entirely on its geographic location and natural features to draw users, whereas a community park in an urban neighborhood might vary more greatly in terms of…[Read more]

I had the first Gang Chen book, other than being more portable than the LEED manual, it didn’t help all that much, thats why I ended up with the other program. The sample exams (such as the one in the back of the Chen book) are pretty accurate in showing the types of questions asked on the exam. You will have to identify synergies between credits…[Read more]

Thanks Jason for your reply and helpful information. I have the Gang Chen book exam guide, the little blue book, its good, but not comprehensive enough. Still looking for people who have taken the GA just to see because I heard they changed it as part of the first exam of two when apply for the AP exam . Other questions I have, does the exam test…[Read more]

I got in under the wire of the old exam, but the principles are the same. You WILL need to know the credits! The exam does rely on your comprehension of how different credits integrate and relate to each other. However, for much of it, it is required to memorize the credit/prerequisite, the goal of that credit, and the reference standard for that…[Read more]

omg, yes! I am keeping a naughty and nice list including comments and dates so I don’t forget where my resumes have been over the last 8 years in CA (Texas the years before, no need for the list with those folks – all were nice!). Sounds wretched, but I have decided for myself that if/when I am ever in the position of hiring or not hiring, I will…[Read more]

NC State requires their BLA to do study abroad and strongly suggests their MLA as well. The curriculum is designed so that the spring of the second year of the MLA program can be spent abroad or in a swing studio in another department or with UNC Chapel Hill in their planning department.

Hi Dean!
Here in South Florida I use the Plantfinder, I’m not sure this publication exists in the MidWest. So, if you haven’t already check out their website, http://www.plantfinder.com/. They have a link to a PlantFinder they are starting in China, so hopefully you can find some leads there!
Best of luck!

Andrew Garulay, RLA replied to the topic ASLA resume posting – job seekers any luck using this method? Employers do you use it? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 16 years, 3 months ago
I just have to wonder if many employers are even taking the time to look for help. I have to think that they are receiving resumes everyday whether they are looking for help or not. Maybe all they need to do is sort through their collections of resumes for a few suitable candidates. I have to think that it shows them either more effort or more…[Read more]

What do you think the ratio is right now for LAs? Nationally the ratio is 1:6 (job : seeker). I’m guessing LA is more like 1:10 or higher?

NC State has a Prague Institute which caters to their College of Design. I studied there in the spring of 2009 and had the opportunity to work on a large scale urban planning project.
