Legos are pretty awesome. I know the company is heavily skewed to making Lego Architecture and not landscape but they do produce trees and flora so I’d poke around a toy store to see what turns up.

Hey Robert,
Thanks for getting up with me. I work for a firm in RTP, well, the Raleigh Durham Area. Its a Arch and Land Planning firm. I use AutoCAD, AC Map and SKP. I have AC Civil 3D but have never used it.
I’m working on large sites with lots of topo lines from government GIS sites, SID files..
1st I want to assign elevations to the topo…[Read more] -

To Robert J. Wainer: it is not the re-stabilizing of social/economic levels that is the goal. If you believe that our profession is based solely on creating furniture details that effect an experience, I respectfully ask you to rethink your view of the profession. Our sites become the venue for interaction dictated by what we in…[Read more]

Yeah. Because being homeless is so awesome, who wouldn’t want to stay homeless for a free sandwich every day? Personally, I just love sleeping in a bleach-smelling cell with a plastic mattress and thin holey blankets. Its totally worth it even if I can’t get into the shelter until 10:30 at night and have to leave again at 6 in the morning. And who…[Read more]

Thanks for that…I might use it on my junior college students this very week (introduction to site planning in an arch. technology associate’s degree program). A few of the current class are thinking about going on into 4 year degrees in some related field. I just wish in truth that L.A.s weren’t only occasionally, but more routinely, involved in…[Read more]

plenty of the most obvious solutions to tasteless inefficient urban sprawl can be found here :
when is it ok to fail ?I like the way the author brings the right questions into the wrong demands.

Apart from war or an epidemic that wipes out a large chunk of the population, I can’t see any way back from where we are. We could potentially work from the inside out, which is where I think LA should be doing its business, but it would also take a massive culture shift too I think.. and I can’t see people giving up their gizmo’s and useless junk…[Read more]

With a world human population exceeding 7million and headed to 9milion (if you can believe those scientists) one wonders how de-urbanization can be possible.

I suppose if you completely reject all urbanization, you kind of have to reject the idea of global warming to justify all the car use needed for everyone to live in rural areas.
While I don’t agree with SS27 about global warming, or that urbanization is inherently bad (plenty of people choose to live in cities), I do think landscape architects s…[Read more] -

Fred,
What are you trying to do. Model the site with pads, road swales etc.? Are you trying to train yourself and how did you come to have Autodesk Civil 3D?
I would like to help you if all you need is a 3D model but I need more information to assist you. -

I saw some videos on Youtube proving there were giants pyramids in the center of China, one of them with an emerald top. They have been built by a renegade dynasty of emperors that were working on the secret of immortality. Some old aerial pictures still exist, but the recent pictures and proofs have been erased. They even doctored images on…[Read more]

For me, there’s nothing wrong about being seriously concerned about homeless people, especially if you’re in a third world country. But if you ask me, pertaining to projects and modern designs nowadays that involve 2-in-1 benches (seating on day, a shelter during the night thing), I guess it provokes more homeless people to stay “homeless”. If we…[Read more]

Hi Leslie
My takeaway from the post was not that ‘big things’ are eventually guaranteed but that to have a decent chance at big things we need to aim high and be committed, something I’ve certainly been guilty of not doing on occasion, and as a result think it important to impart to anyone starting out in LA (and other professions). For me, do…[Read more] - Load More
