In response to illegal bootleging, Adobe has moved to monthly subscription service for their latest suite. It’s not a bad option because you can bill the cost to your client… I think Photoshop costs like 60 bucks a month. I wouldn’t doubt if Autocad moved to a monthly subscription as well in the near future.

Katharine – what container sizes do you offer in the larger specimen aeoniums, agaves and aloes? Are any of the aoniums more tolerant of cold…down below freezing?

I use AutoCAD LT which costs about $900.
There are many Intellicad programs out there which are full ACAD clones that run around $300.
there are free photoimaging programs like paint.net or Gimp, but they are not the same as photoshop – maybe good enouh for what you want to do or maybe not.

as far a s work goes for being in school, expect a lot of late nights / early mornings.
I started the program at uga as a freshman with 20 people then by 5th year it was maxed out at about 70 people and the program was turning people away….
as far as the professional world, I have worked at a design build and large engineering firm.

You stated that there are not very many opportunities in the States here, and I’m wondering where you see there being more opportunities. I just graduated in May of this year with my Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture form North Dakota State University. I am more then willing to move for a job, I am fine with doing mostly AutoCad and p…[Read more]

btw out of those 100 students I refered to; approx. 30% of those students I started with graduated in that profession with me four years later.
as Robert pointed out… It’s not for the faint of heart and you need to be flexible and willing to learn and adapt.
It’s one of those professions most people never heard of except through HGTV (BL…[Read more] -

I was actually going to school to be an architect and didn’t get into the program, my school advisor said there was an opening in the Landscape Architecture class so I took the opportunity and found myself with a 100 other rejected architecture students and 3 students who truely wanted to be a landscape architect.
Overall I enjoy what I do;…[Read more] -

All of the places mentioned are good but you can’t pass up the Alhambra in Granada. I believe it’s the only one of its kind left (still intact). You’ll spend a good 4 hours there and shoot 4 rolls of film.

I agree with all above.
You’ll be doing a lot of sections, plans, and putting together presentation packages for all phases of design. So you need to be able to follow direction well, and have the courage to jump right in and start making whatever they want you to do. That involves having the right technical skills (digital or hand depending on…[Read more]

In an entry-level position, I’d say the critical skills are probably the ability to balance creativity with practicality (have great ideas, but also understand what is buildable and what is specifically wanted/needed/required by the client and the context of the project), as well as efficiency (it’s all well and good to be fluent in CAD and…[Read more]

Given that I will be required to travel out of state to attend a review, does anyone have any recommendations in regards to who does offer a good LARE review or who I should avoid?

I spent a full 3 months abroad visiting throughout Europe including the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy and I have felt inspired by my presence in each place. Although I loved Barcelona It is my recommendation that if you only have 8 days that you fly into Paris.

The 500, as you pointed out, is not a good choice if you like very fine lines.
I am paying per print to use a Xerox laser in a CEs office. It is a good alternative if you have a good enough working relationship to someone who will let you use their equipment. -

The 500 is the 800’s little brother, and is available up to a 42″ width as well. The difference is in the resolution. The 500 goes up to 1200dpi, and the 800 is 2400dpi. I looked at both before I ordered them for the firm I was working for (we had 2 of them), and the 500 was still not the best in terms of droplet size or smoothness of color, which…[Read more]

I second that with the Loire Valley – great bike, you can do a chateau a day, and a great fixed price meal for lunch..lovely time, the biking is easy.
Your list is very good, I think, Mark, but if one has never been to France and Spain, being more “destination – less”, and just getting in the walking spots has a lot of benefits. I’ve never…[Read more] - Load More
