This is interesting to me because more often than not we do much of development of any design in plan view – from above. I’ve always looked at the bigger problem being the conversion of the client’s understanding the of the plan view, which they typically get rather easily, to that of being on the ground.
Maybe it is that we are trained to…[Read more] -

I use VW Landmark w/Renderworks, and subscribe to Service Select so I always have the current version. It’s taken me over a year to get comfortable in the program, but now I wouldn’t go back. I don’t understand why people would use SU in conjunction with VW, as the VW 3D registers all changes automatically and the new version has some SU-type…[Read more]

I have a PC at my regular gig but prefer a MacBook Pro for my consulting work, which I do out of my home and a co-working space. I use AutoCad for Mac and Sketchup Pro for drafting and modeling. Artlantis and Phtotshop for 3D renderings. My MacBook has been able to handle all this and I can transfer drawings back and forth from PC with no issues.…[Read more]

I also have a PC I’ve built myself, and it cost me a fraction of a Mac. Computers crash when it overheats, so if it is properly cooled, it should be ok.
Macs are great because they’ve engineered the heck out of it and support is as simple as going to the Apple store. PCs are a hit or miss. Unless you build your own machine and know what you’re…[Read more]

Autocad is available for Macs, no need to run Windows anymore. I recommend the more expensive Macs with a dedicated graphics card, you’ll need it for any 3d work.

Laurent,
I’m writing to you from Cusco, Peru about this topic. I rarely use Sketchup now that I’m using vectorworks but there is a great advantage to each and the fact the VW easily imports sketchup files really helps. -

Hey Laurent,
We use VW Landmark and SU Pro, and we’re a mac-based office. Some iMacs, some Mac Pros. I have the latest iMac, maxed out on hard drive, video card, and 32GB of RAM. One in the office has slightly less RAM on an 1.5 year old iMac, works ok, but not as fast on SU in particular. Video card is really important. You may spend an extra…[Read more] -

BeLoose Graphic Workshop 12 years, 10 months agoTIP OF THE WEEK: How to place people in a sketch
It is very easy to place people in sketches or perspectives with the following rules:
1. You must assume yourself is a 5 ft tall person and people you are drawing are all 5 ft. tall just like you.
2. Draw an eye line on paper, then sketch or trace people with their eyes located on the eye line.
3.…[Read more] -

Laurent,
I whole-heartedly back Vectorworks Landmark. It’s amazingly well-fitted to our profession. I also believe watching the videos will help you get over any learning curve. (The company also has Service Select which gives you more videos on landscape tasks, training, and software upgrades. It’s well worth it.) SketchUp just released a ne…[Read more] - Load More
