Thanks for starting this thread, Eric.
In the LARE Orientation Manual (June 2012) there is information on fasteners, reinforcing, materials, lumber / timber, and wood member sizing — but there are listed as necessary for Section *4* — not 3.
However, CLARB’s Section 3 topic list indicates we should “investigate, verify availability, and select…[Read more]

You know, Boilerplater, I think LA’s are done to death with re-building strategies – not that it hasnt been brought up yet, but it has been discussed TO DEATH, over and over and over..for fifty years – when was “Design with nature” published? so at least ten years BEFORE that.
I heard a bureaucrat on NPR this morning say, perhaps building in f…[Read more] -

No, Andrew, that is when all the banks collapsed and had to be bailed out – right then. The collapse happened under Bush. And that is the date. You can look it up..All the other stuff, job losses, etc., is a result of that collapse, and that collapse was caused by unregulated banking, the Bush tax cuts, and the unfunded three trillion dollar war.…[Read more]

Craig:
Here is Frank Bruni from the NYT basically promoting what you wrap up with in your comment above. No matter who wins, can we just give whomever the victor is the necessary grace period and support to put whatever their programs and initiatives are to right our economy in motion and let them sink or rise on their own merits ? (Yeah, Jason…[Read more]

I’m not expecting different results. I’m pretty sure that the economy and life in general were a lot better during all administrations in my life time before this one.

Are you telling me that the recovery started under the Bush administration?

You know, I haven’t seen much discussion of rebuilding strategies yet on regional sites and message boards. Maybe its too soon. People are too shell-shocked as of yet. I’ve seen some calls for a storm surge barrier across New York harbor, on the scale of Holland’s Delta Works, but that’s about it. I seriously wonder if people will rebuild rig…[Read more]

The economy bottomed out on Sept. 18,2008, not three years ago, Andrew, and when Obamatook office we were bleeding out 800000 jobs a month. Obama has turned that around slowly and steadily, even with Reublican obstructionism, to our now ADDING jobs each quarter – that is something that worked, in my book, and would have worked better if the…[Read more]

We all see what we ant to see, hear what we want to hear, and believe what we want to believe.
I just an’t understand why anyone can go through the worst economic situation of our life times with the only change being that it bottomed out three yreas ago, and somehow believe that the economy of the past was worse than that of the present or t…[Read more] -

What’s funny is that the economy is expected to add 11.8 million new jobs, regardless of who is president. So, Romney’s not setting a very high goal, is he? I guess whoever wins gets to take credit for the coming recovery.
To me that means we should be paying attention to other issues as well as the economy. I think Obama cares more about issues…[Read more] -

I have always both enjoyed and respected the expertise and viewpoints you have expressed here at Land8Lounge. That won’t change.

What is not in question is what will happen if “this tag tem” is not elected.
If “this tag team” is elected, maybe some of you will be able to move back to the United States to work and a lot more of you won’t be asking about working in China or Dubai.
How blind can you be? -

Right, like I quoted, Jordan, “keep your hands off my medicare!” it just works too well for everyone! Your perspective is way too easy on Republicans, as you seem to be not listening to their words (The Ryan Budget, for example) but inventing something from whole cloth. It’s like calling Romney a businessman – the concept of businessman has…[Read more]

Sorry Trace once again you find yourself thinking that the republican stance is no government at all. I doubt that the majority of either party is at the extremes that everyone fears. Yes there is a place for public assistance in natural disasters, but the federal government can not and should not fix it all.
Yes republicans live in a matrix of…[Read more] -
