Hi Henry – we do have LandFX in our office – I will have to see if it can do what we need – thanks for the recommendation!

There has been more work in the Middle East and China (both economies are slowing down); Brazil should be picking up – large architecture firms have already established presences there. That being said, unless you have language skills that can make you able to fit right in, you might be best served knocking on doors of firms that do work abroad…[Read more]

It’s not dead in the design-build area where I see smatterings of ads on sites like simplyhired, indeed, monster etc., although they make it clear that the work involves selling, estimating, and crew supervision…and a person might have to move to them. There may also be stacks of candidates to compete with, but there are definitely ads. It’s…[Read more]

There are a lot of ways to speculate on motivation of both the employer and potential employee here. The thing is that we all have a choice to take on he job or not.
Some businesses are struggling and have to do everything they can to maintain their last few employees. I don’t know what the state of that company is, but it is not beyond…[Read more] -

If the States is a dead end, Italy is a black hole without comeback.
Maybe no, without comeback, but at the moment I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Good luck!!! -
ida replied to the topic Too much text? in the forum PORTFOLIO & RESUME 13 years, 8 months ago
Yes you can reduce the text, but you should try place the text in one area rather than in-between the images. Having text in-between reduces the images’ impact. Right now your pages look like a muddled mess of gray. If you need a caption to describe the image, the caption should only be 1 sentence or 1 line, not a paragraph block. I agee with the…[Read more]

This is helpful for sure! You gave me some good advice about my layout. I really agree that graphics should dominate the page. Thank you!

yes, I realized that the grey was distracting and I agree that more hand process sketches would be beneficial, thanks!

Right I need to spend more time on the writing part to explain my projects more clearly. Thank you!

I suppose they are maintaining a fantasy that they will find someone who is independently wealthy and just does LA work because that’s what he likes to do for fun and doesn’t really care about compensation. It is rather ridiculous to expect what they outline of someone. This is for someone who does not need what one would normally expect of a j…[Read more]

Thanks Chris – I’ll take a look at this. I know, seamless is probably asking a little much – but there has to be something that works better than my current method.

Trace One replied to the topic Wildlife Crossing: Good idea? in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 13 years, 8 months ago
This is a good idea, that one is gorgeous, but there are a lot of ‘mitigation measures’ that to me are just bandaids for the displacement of wildlife – like providing llittle holes in concrete highway barriers to let the kit fox get through (right!), or timing a project for when bats aren’t nesting, then providing bat boxes when the project is…[Read more]

It would take time, not overnight, but I think the idea is generally that you place these crossings to align with natural wildlife migration corridors. Larger wildlife like elk as I understand dont deviate too far from historic routes.
Good idea, with lots of potential beyond just wildlife..
The alternative is long lines of fencing, forcing…[Read more]

I don’t know about ‘seamless’, nor do I know how well the current versions are working, but I use an add-on called AutoXlsTable. In my version (2.53) it’s not completely automatic – you do have to click a tool and then the table to update it. But it’s fast, easy enough to use once you get the parameters down, and worked very well for the land us…[Read more]

Yes, AutoCAD does this as well, but it is not always reliable – if the table is changed (i.e. rows or columns added or deleted) the linked table in AutoCAD does weird things.

I have to wonder how effective they are.
An animal would need to…
A: Recognize a freeway as a mortal threat.
B: Recognize the wildlife bridge as a safe alternative.
C: Be able to locate a wildlife bridge.
Deer, raccoon, coyote, mountain lion, etc… I’m pretty sure most large mammals would cross a freeway wherever they came upon one…[Read more] -

I have created Schedules in Xcel and have successfully inserted them using “paste special” into Microstation files. I have never done this with Autocad.

I like that you start with one of your strongest projects, the last one should be your strongest (it looks like it will have more content?). I agree with the previous posters – the grey is distracting. Amount of text doesn’t bother me – but it should add relevant content not repeat the obvious (didn’t get a chance to go through it).

Thanks. I really appreciate the feedback. It’s really helpful. I tried to include my least offensive artwork in the portfolio itself. I forgot that I had some of the more unsettling stuff on the website. I’ll see what can be done. Again, thanks!
