“Woodstock”, but as a dirge. Its an ironic reminder of best hopes and ideals of the movement in the 60’s lost in the process of growing up, pushback, and the 80’s and 90’s….not exactly as specifically relevant of the other songs, but more zeitgeist….and darned sad in my opinion.

The problem arises if you need to do a WL install and a meter. In my county a 3′ water meter is $80,000. Plus the cost of the line work itself.

Oh how exciting but even the idea of networking to get laws with teeth must feel like getting yours pulled in relation to the pollution. I would say the port will get what the government are willing to do and enforce but just the drawings and sketches could be nice even if pitched in tranches, sections being finished one at a time. It is sa…[Read more]

I have used gabions in this application (we used “river rounds” because they are a locally available resource).
The wire in the gabion panels is pretty stiff and would be limited to large curves (unless you have it molded to shape in a machine shop), but I have made round columns using thinner guage meshes (aka agricultural livestock…[Read more] -

Perhaps even a more potent song as the 2012 political conventions approach. I hope we are in the streets in a massive presence. Last time round, it really changed the political dialogue, but then again “law and order” was the prevailing knee-jerk reaction and we elected another ultra-paranoid jerk named Nixon. I always felt one the great…[Read more]

A great selection too in my mind, and not just because I am a Springsteen fan and opened up this forum with a quote from him.I have always felt that not only the title cut, but the entire “Ghost of Tom Joad” CD was a scathing commentary of the economic seizures and convulsions of that period (the Depression) and the life-altering w…[Read more] -

I need to weigh-in on the Milone and MacBroom report posted on May 4th, 09 by Squiers. Anyone who has any experiance with synthetic turf on hot days knows that the findings published by that report are not consistant with real life. To get a “real” sampling of the excessive heat that builds up on synthetic turf, those Milone and MacBroom boys sh…[Read more]

The synthetic turf cooling system sold by Earthologytech.com is, in fact, the only commercial “under-turf” cooling system available. It works by circulating water under your turf field in a closed-loop system. The water is cooled to about 65 degrees by an underground core utilizing Geo Thermal Ground Source Heat Exchange technology. In hot weather…[Read more]

A Springsteen song has been in my mind a lot lately, only its the Rage Against the Machine version. Its “The Ghost of Tom Joad”. I think their version better communicates a sense of fear and of struggle against a malevolent economic and geographic landscape. Springsteen’s original is just sad. The line “Families sleepin’ in their cars out in…[Read more]

Now that I think about it, “Ignoreland” (also REM) would be another good choice.

I think the new layout definitely marginalizes the forum, which is probably the point. I would have actually liked to see some of the multimedia content scaled down or gone completely from the home page and the discussions tab played up even more.
I’m not looking at portfolios much here. I’d like to see portfolio critiques happen through the discussions. -

I’m not fully sure what you’re asking, but I’ll do my best. I know that when applying to UC Berkeley you must choose only one program to apply for. You can’t choose multiple degree programs in hopes that you’ll be accepted into at least one and make your decision from there.
Having said that, it’s about following what you feel your pr…[Read more] -

Once some architect told me, that they do not use cor ten, because it looks all the time the same – and if they use “normal” steel, which gets rusty, it is more interesting: the thin scales of rust are peeling off and the surface is more colourful, living, changing…I know that it is not possible to use it for a planter at a marble terrace, but…[Read more]
