Meta-tags–The client needs to tell the web designer specifically what words to enter as part of the code on their website. This is probably the biggest loophole out there and is, in my opinion, deceptive.

Thanks for the link Jason! It’s really neat to get to see what’s under High Line (something I hadn’t really considered) and what goes into maintaining it…
It looks like the park is holding up really well and it’s attracting a lot of users… what a great space to have in NY! Hopefully I’ll get to see it in person some day…
I’m not so sure…[Read more] -

I think what you say is very true. We have NEVER been able to get a job. Jon has applied at 150(???) firms at least!!! Three phone interviews and one interview…a week before the market crashed in 2008. So yeah…there is nothing else we know. We are so grateful to be thriving in our own design/build business…perhaps we have lower standards for…[Read more]

That is what continuing education credits are for. Push for your state to require them if they don’t already.

And S&P’s stated reasons are interesting.
1. They do not trust the current political structure’s ability to do anything or enough of anything to stabilize the debt. We’ll have to wait until 2012 to fix that (if either party gains clear majorities).
2. They were looking for SUBSTANTIAL and near immediate reduction in spending, to the tune of…[Read more] -

I don’t agree with the exclusion of non-terminal degree professionals being excluded from teaching at many universities. There are often much brighter, dedicated, and more experienced (REAL WORLD experience) among practicing professionals than those isolated in academia. It is a very different world. Truth is, it is a statistics game. The…[Read more]

Right, but you want to buy after the downgrade, not before… if you bought on Friday, there is a good chance it’s going to go down further on Monday…
I don’t have any money either but it’s fun to follow and pretend “what if…”

Jason, thanks for posting….I love NYC and don’t get there often enough so I haven’t seen the High Line up close and personal…..
About the High Line, while I like what I see, I just wonder how “sustainable” ( to quote a trite overly used cliche’) an elevated, exposed artificial landscape can be. It must be horribly expensive to maintain….I’m…[Read more] -

Past downgrading of credit worthiness in other countries actually DOES indicate this is a good time to buy in some instances. Buy LOW for long term investment. I have no extra cash…haha.

but there is no undergraduate or master’s degree in law or medicine.. how about people who have MA in the fine arts becoming full professors…Dr. so and so, professor of painting fundamentals..
what status does a ‘terminal degree’ gain one? Does excluding enthusiasts help us or hurt us?

I hope you didn’t buy yet… the S&P just downgraded the US’s credit worthiness from AAA to AA+. Monday morning is going to be interesting…
My guess-timate: Monday the market takes a dive followed by turbulence (while the gov’t scrambles to cover its butt and reassure people). It will then stabilize but not return to levels prior to last week……[Read more] -

By that reasoning, someone who graduated from law school can automatically call themselves a lawyer or medical school, a doctor. Architects, engineers and even beauticians have to be registered by their state in order to practice. Allyson, I see you have experience in this industry. I think with that experience you should know very well the di…[Read more]

It isn’t about ego…it is about LEGALITY. If you advertise that you are a landscape architect…you are breaking the law. You cannot advertise landscape architectural services. My husband is an RLA in Idaho but not Washington and we live…2.5 miles from the border. He cannot advertise in Washington for landscape architectural services. It isn’t…[Read more]

I have a BSLA degree from an accredited university, I will therefore call myself a ‘landscape architect’. When I become an RLA I will then call myself a “registered landscape architect”. Get over yourself.

The profession should mandate a 10 year license limit. Everyone has to retake the exam after holding the RLA for 10 yrs.
Nooooo. No more testing. It is really not that hard to do this job folks. Even Dr’s don’t have to retake their boards. -

Most states pass registration with a number of provisions that grandfather in people or allow overlapping by other professions, or exempt land areas under 1 acre for the contractors to keep on doing those, etc. Which is ironically why I think Denise has more hiring options than she may think. Engineers sometimes, while continuing to be in the…[Read more]

You live in Idaho! A heavy red state and Palin was a U of I grad too. Its so obvious the GOP protects the wealthy in America, while ignoring the middle class in terms of financial matters. The GOP then uses religion, gun ownership and a few other selective subjects to rally their middle class Republican sheeps. And I especially love the way the…[Read more]

The only firm who seem to think an MLA is important is Design Workshop. From 1999 to 2008, their employment ads always had a preference for the MLA. I know because I applied on three different occasions, received 2 interviews (Tahoe and Phoenix offices) but never a work offer.
Getting a BSLA and MLA makes no sense. Pursue something in business or…[Read more] - Load More
