Could govt. influence be the reason the economy has tanked?
The only way govt. drives private sector is if you are politically connected…look who got the stimulus money and who did not…. -

Last year, I worked on a project that was able to move ahead with stimulus funding. I also saw rfp’s for trail planning and design in my community that were funded with stimulus money. Private investors aren’t interested in building bike trails and safe routes to school. You should also keep in mind that the stimulus funds are paying for…[Read more]

Chip Sullivan has two fantastic books; one on climate and gardens and the other on drawing. The one on drawing is both a ‘how to’ and and inspiring.

My job now is just that Tabitha, and I could not have asked for a better job. I love it! I will look into that book, as i feel it might be one of those biblicalesque books for font crazies like myself. Yes, i want to be a landscape starchitect, and maybe this is my actual calling, landscape fontitecture… who knows??? I clearly understand th…[Read more]

I got a horrible grade in a studio, because i cared about graphics, and not the GIS material.

actually the tar sands extraction is heavily subsized by the government, unfortunately. There are direct tax subsidies, as well as road use, environmental pollution that does not figure into any calculations of cost (tar sand extraction is extremely pollution process of both the air and water..), and the intense use of water that the process…[Read more]

Green jobs will be created when the market determines they can save more money or make more money. If we mean green jobs as in landscape architecture…well I don’t think we are going to see that. If you mean green jobs as in biotech/smart grid, etc….those will be created as quickly as the market dictates.
When I see a question like this I…[Read more] -

One book I always recommend to the first year students (most of whom find drawing mystifying) is “Drawing on the right side of the brain” by Betty Edwards. This is NOT a how to for designers but rather a book that shows the reader how to “really see” through drawing. You can probably find the book in your local…[Read more]
