Great eye opener! Will you be posting your list of schools that go one way or the other?

I found that i did not like some of the very subtle ways that Bricscad behaved differently than Acad in how it handled things that did not work with my habits. This goes back two or three years, but I particularly did not like how I could not control survet points that were in existing drawings. There were a few other things that had to do with…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 15 years, 5 months agoTaking all 3 multiple choice tests at the same time is doable, but a lot depends on the individual.
Are you over-worked? (Sadly those employed generally are, due to the “attrition” the profession has experienced)
Do you have kids, significant others, sick parents, do a lot of onerous volunteer work?
How focused are you at test preparation?

Hi Matt,
Don’t assume that Linux is any more secure than any of the other OS’s on the market, A number of years ago my computer tech started and ISP and he chose Silicon Graphics Hardware to run his ISP. SGI ran on their own flavor of Unix. (Linux is a derivative of Unix) One week about 3 or 4 years into his business a bunch of russian hack…[Read more] -

Steve,
I do agree with you that Apple will continue to be the more expensive option. I have also seen glitches in MacOS, but fewer than those in a Windows environment. The one exception that I have experienced in the ‘fewer glitches vs cost’ evaluation you mentioned is with a Linux system. Linux = free+rock solid stability. Unf…[Read more] -

Well-written & researched, what with the percentage types of LA programs and all. Reminded me of a news bit I saw earlier today about how student loan debt is now greater than credit card debt in the US. We all need to be very careful about the debts we get ourselves into. I’ll be interested to hear the feedback you get from your pr…[Read more]

um, yeah… I think Milan is Serbian… maybe we could combine Spanish and Slovic dialects… who knows? Maybe throw a little French or Portuguese in there for good measure. In either case, I think we still need a bit more information in order to help you Milan. Sounds like you need to do more homework in order to understand what you’re dealing…[Read more]

Insightful article. Thank you for sharing your experience, doing the research and saving some of us from the pitfalls of the various MLA programs. The 1.5 year MLA II program sounds like the way to go, if at all possible.

Hi Matt,
That is the strengths of doing business with a vendor that has control of both the hardware and the OS that it sells, fewer technical glitches (with an emphasis on “fewer”). The disadvantange is the price, Apple will ALWAYS be more expensive! These are the facts and they are undisputable.

Not bad! If you go with the basic Land F/X and AutoCAD that’s like getting AutoCAD for free… approx. $4200 total. If you go with the Irrigation F/X it would be closer to $5700 for the package. Still a money saver if you don’t have to sub-out irrigation plans at +/- $600 a pop. Now if I sell my car, my touring bicycle, a kidney and donate plasma…[Read more]

Hi Henry,
Though that sounds like a tempting offer, a user must evaluate the TCO (total cost of ownership) When you factor in the Maintenance/software Update contracts. It is still not as good a deal as the BricsCAD/LandFX is.

Hi Chad,
Your concerns are very valid! And there may be some hidden concerns you may not have considered, First, This is not the first time that Autodesk has ventured into the Mac world, The last time they did that they stuck a lot of users who chose the Macintosh/AutoCAD platform over the PC platform. All of those users were forced to ditch th…[Read more] -

in my studio a lot of students praised Autocad for mac, which was short lived… I have seen nothing but problems with bigger projects among fellow students. Autocad was built for a windows based system, expect a couple more years of development from autodesk before thinking of transferring in my opinion.

Hi Henry,
Actually the BricsCAD/LandFX/Sketchup Pro solution is a pretty strong solution! I am a orphaned customer of Eaglepoint’s SMI/BricsCAD/LandCADD software. (Within 6 months Eaglepoint announced to all of the customers they sold SMI and BricsCAD/LandCADD to that they would no longer support those options anymore. “I just needed to das…[Read more] -

Chad- I spent a couple hours last night working from home on a project drawing in AutoCad for Mac. I imported a dwg I had been working on with my work PC with no difficulty. All layers, rasters and xrefs accounted for.
The Mac interface takes a bit of getting used to, but if you can work in Cad for PC, you can work just as easily and quickly in…[Read more] -
