An MLA is required if you want to teach. Government will pay more for an MLA. (but not a lot more) That’s about it from a pay perspective. You are right. But we just experience that students never use libraries. And so many publishers do not believe in the future of print!. But I do. I still love printed media,magazines,books. I have an extensive landscape and architecture library of books that I would never give up. Too much research now shows only reading digital media actually makes you absorb/process less of what you read,
