Why not just hand out nylon tents if we’re going to build wooden sheds? Sounds like we’re re-inventing the wheel errmm..tent here.

Mike, that is very similar to the material that I was looking at a few years ago. I’d like to try it or something similar, but I don’t want to rely on the manufacturer to tell me how it performs (especially after seeing some disasters from other products that still look great on the manufacturers web sites).
Bob,
That sounds interesting, but I’m…[Read more] -

While in college at Oregon State , our experimental turf farm was one of the first to use rubber crumb mulch at a top dressing on turf. One of the uses that have since bee used with the research that was done has been as a top dressing at the end of cartpaths on golf courses where the cart path transitions to turf ( a high impact area). The ground…[Read more]

L.A.R.E. – ANYTHING GOES 16 years agoOnce upon a time, the reference manual had symbols for plants used in planting plan vignettes. These disappeared in 2006. I suspect this is what you may be referring to.
Susannah,
One vignette solution showed a swale constructed entirely in fill adjacent to a road. There was clearly no need for a swale given the existing topo depicted. They also…[Read more]

#1. These are some of my favorites: shown with no irrigation in a parking lot near Petaluma: California Fescue, rudbeckia, lavender, Blue Wildrye, erigeron (probably overused) Sycamore.
some of my favorites from Sonoma County : Echium, Euphorbia amygdaloides robbiae, Flowering Quince, Teucrium, Calycanthus. I think Mondo grass is totally cool.…[Read more] -

Andrew,
I like the mobile site and use it frequently. 2 requests/suggestions.
In the forum, you can’t browse by category. Can this be added?
Also, there is no access to groups. Can this be added as well?
Thanks!

Mostly interior, some coastal. I should have added adaptable to my criteria.

Portland does a great job of creating individual cells that daisy chain together with each cell having an inlet and an outlet. Most of their examples are on pretty shallow grade, though and street in the St. John’s area outside Portland was a bit steeper and you can get a feel for the spacing of the inlets. The most typical inlet erosion…[Read more]

I don’t have an observation personally for this company, but their demos at the office were very solid.

Make sure you do plenty of research on the reliability of the box. Most use consumer grade hard drives to lessen the costs. These can be notoriously unreliable and slow. Your NAS , at a minimum, should have real-time drive mirroring as a backup. I would also suggest getting offsite backup from something like Mozy or Carbonite. Its cheap insurance,…[Read more]

I did my internship (more than ten years ago) in a firm with six people on a similar computer network. One of the things I did on my very last day was to pick up an early NAS for them after some research and recommendations. Unfortunately I didn’t have much to do with it beyond plugging it in.
But based on what I know of NAS boxes, particularly…[Read more]

I know Portland, OR has installed several different types of curb cuts, both as a part of new construction and as retrofits. Someone there could be a great resource for dimensions, etc. I have attached a few photos of one of their projects. Good luck!
