Landscape Changes over time…….

THE LANDSCAPE CHANGES OVER TIME……..

When a landscape design is initially installed, is is sometimes hard for the homeowner to envision how it will drastically change over time. Trees and shrubs will grow, stone and other hardscape items will weather and new shade patterns will be introduced by the larger trees.

In this Lexington Hills Project (Eagle, Idaho), large amounts of Table Rock Sandstone was used to build a  privacy wall / water feature for a new sunken patio. Initially the stone was bright, but over time it weathered, and the plants started to soften the stone.

This project was installed by Franz Witte Landscape in 2004 with the shade structured being phased in 2005.

The following pictures were taken right after the installation in 2004 and in 2011 to show how the landscape has matured.

  1. Chuck thanks for sharing the photos.  Love seeing landscape mature successfully.  I’m most interested in that pergola.  What’s the spacing on the top slats.  And do they actually provide total shade when the sun angle is below high noon?  Thanks in advance.  -Miles

  2. Miles,

Thanks for the comments. Typically I get to see a project during and right after installation – so it is really neat when I get to go back after several year and see how it has matured.

The Pergola is Alumawood, and if I remember right we used 1.5” square lattice tubes with 1.5” space between.

Late in the afternoon and early morning, you will a more of a solid shade – but around non it will defiantly be more filtered. The attached picture was taken around 1pm.

    Chuck
