I agree w/Andrew and Goustan: talk with other firms. It may “just be” that particular firm.
Did they give you “specifics” as to why they thought that you might be “lacking”? If not…could you call them and ask them for additional clarification so that you know where you “need” improve or what skill they felt needed work…you may only need…[Read more] -

😉  Â
I’m guessing that the Texas reference was a joke (probably based on some fact…you should hear Aggie jokes but I digress)….sometimes hard to tell on-line…Â
Like Robert, I’m from Texas … actually also the Dallas area. The firm that I work for has worked / is working on numerous LID, LEED, and storm management projects; uses nativ…[Read more] -

Omar,
If sustainable design is your real passion / your interest, I say “go for it” and don’t worry about what others think. Every comment that you will receive is based upon “that” person’s experiences so take everyone (including me) with a grain of salt.

Barbara Peterson replied to the topic SKATEPARK DESIGN – Integrating skatepark design into landscape architecture in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 9 months ago
Couple of questions:
– was this designed with the intent of being a skate park or was it “commandeered” by skateboarders?
– how is it integrated into the remainder of the park? That is…is it set within the main path or is the photographer standing on a main path?
– is it a neighborhood park (ie surrounded by home) or is it part of a city park…[Read more] -

I had been told something similar…I use AutoCAD LT. It was slightly cheaper for me to get the annual upgrade than it is to purchase every 3 years.

So, I noticed that the holiday party this evening is sold out…contact one of the Chapter’s officers and see if you can still get a ticket…..(or consider contacting the Victor Stanley rep – looks to be the event sponsor – to see if there are any additional tickets…). Good luck: have fun.

Speaking of networking: ’tis the holiday time…short notice but it looks like your NY ASLA Chapter has a holiday party tonight (the 6th) – http://aslany.org/event/holiday-party/ . If you can, ATTEND, bring business cards and a great attitude.
Also, looks like the NY Chapter has some jobs posted on their website – http://www.nyasla.org/jobs/ . -
Barbara Peterson replied to the topic desert landscaping in the forum STORY BOARD 10 years, 11 months ago
Depends on the “desert” that you are looking for. In addition to a Google search, you can also check the landscapeonline site: http://www.landscapeonline.com/research/article/16929Â . The link takes you to their page which in this case lists some l.a. firms in New Mexico & Arizona…they were listed in the magazine prior to that year’s National…[Read more]

First, don’t ask folks what you should do for your final topic: too many people with too many different interests.
If you are interested in the topic that you choose, your final project will be better researched and prepared. You have listed some topics that interest you: good start
1. Research the topics that you already find interesting: what ha…[Read more] -

Just be very clear about your particular participation on each project.Â
That is, by stating both the entire scope of the project as well as your responsibilities, an interviewer can better understand your involvement on each project as well as your overall experience in different areas (design vs CD production vs CA vs client interaction, et…[Read more] -
Barbara Peterson replied to the topic Can you give me a realistic picture of being a landscape architect? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 11 years, 3 months ago
For me: the field has it’s ups and downs. At times, I really like what I do and am excited about my projects while at other times, I wonder “why do I even bother”. But honestly, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives….I’d say 90:10…with the 90 being the positive.

Barbara Peterson replied to the topic What's your favorite Job Interview Question? in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 11 years, 3 months ago
Not ones to ask…but two of my most memorable:
1. (background: 1st job interview out of college…never having worked in an l.a. office) I was asked if I had ever “put together CD’s”. My mind froze and all I could think of were music CD’s. Of course, I said that I had “put together several”…not having a clue what he meant but “knowing” that “…[Read more] -

I wish that I could say who the company is but I don’t think that it would be appropriate….perhaps the course will not even be approved…I can only hope.

I called the company to check their policy on copying or plagiarizing from the web and the reply was essentially:
– the course was a compilation of material and the site(s) were not copy written (I found one that was used and was also copy written) so they can use that information if they want to;
– my comments didn’t really matter (although I c…[Read more] - Load More
