California Native Plants 17 years agoAgree with Ken and Blake. There’s also some nurseries that specialize in natives. Yerba Buena Nursery south of SF has a demonstration garden with labeled plants and the owners are VERY knowledgeable. Also, North Coast Nursery and Cal Flora in Sonoma County. Also, it’s good to be mindful of the fact that California has many totaly different native…[Read more]

California Native Plants 17 years agoThe South Lake Tahoe and North Lake Tahoe Demonstration Gardens show a plethora of California Native plants used in the high Sierra. These gardens give great examples of California Native plants at diffrent stages of development.

California Native Plants 17 years agoAgree with Blake — the Merritt program is great. I also volunteered at Tilden’s native nursery on Thursday mornings — propagating, etc. It was a great way to learn about natives. U.C. Botanical Garden and the Tilden Park (native) Botanical Garden are both stunning places to check out CA natives in a park setting.

Design Technology 17 years agoWell, I have been away for awhile.
I have been looking at the use of Maya Dynamics to force design. It is kind of fun but I don’t know if it will go anywhere. Has anyone used
any of the dynamic functions in Maya (Airfield, Gravity, Newtonian field etc)? -

Graphics 17 years agoI noted Rico listed Ace Torre as an influence. I recently completed an extensive article profiling Torre for next month’s (May 09) issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine. It’s an in-depth look at his design drawing philosophies and techniques, with step by step photos of Torre in the studio creating one of his famous “tilt-up” aerial drawings.

Portfolios and Resumes – Design Strategies 17 years agoGreat idea for a group! As I accumulate drawings with each class, I am at a loss of what to do with it all, what is worthy to include in a portfolio and how best to create a portfolio.

Design Technology 17 years, 1 month agoI thought I would post a few Grasshopper files that I made to help out in the site engineering department. They basically interpolate contours a couple of different ways.
The first one works on contour lines and the second on elevation points. I made a third for roads but I am not sure about it…[Read more]
