That wall sure needs something to liven it up. Personally, and given a choice, I’d go for vines and cover the whole thing up.
How about something very slow growing, columnar, evergreen, that could be pruned once in a while ?
Not too familiar with northern trees any more, but maybe something like a cypress, Chamaecyparis, Thuya ? There are small…[Read more] -

i like your blocks.
Like Nathan said. Desaturation or opacity to 50% or both (adjust up to your feelings) work well. If you cant find your exact site on GEarth, just take any nearby forest snapshot.
I like to make sure it does not conflict graphically with the contents of the plan (keep it light), because your plan is what you want to stand…[Read more]

Great article that slipped my attention before. I love citizens acting on their territories, in one word : guerrilla gardening.
There is a petition to sign to support this Washingtonian modern times Don Quixote :

imo, dont let this prevent you to apply for this job, unless its a draftsman’s position. It’s one of these kind of skills you learn on the spot, by doing it. We all must learn new skills continuously in this profession.
You can grab the concept in a few hours, and use it ‘fluently’ in a project or two. Try practicing it now at home on your CAD…[Read more]

Stephen, if not too late in the process, you could still add up a few fruit/nuts trees. Teach the kids contact with nature, food does not come out in a box from a factory. Milk or cheese either.
You will help kids in many ways with those prefab playgrounds, but you wont get them attracted to nature.I’m surprised everyone in this thread is…[Read more]

Mac or PC, desktop or laptop is not all that relevant in my opinion : you employer is gonna provide you with something, and you’ll have to deal with it. In my experience, good agencies know the drill and will do things right.
If you expect to work alone, or freelance, and need to spec your own computer, remember you can get the same hardware with…[Read more]

Goustan BODIN replied to the topic Won't somebody PLEASE think about the poor children, I mean, trees! in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 11 months ago
I’d say the guys who planted the trees saw some stakes somewhere, someday, and thought : Aw, that’s the way to do it then, let’s do it too, our work will now look like the *real thing* !

I don’t think my answer is going to make you feel any better…
Typical planter here in Bangkok streets, when any.
The trunk and crowns would usually look like a variation of that :
Common ‘maintenance’ practice in Bangkok…
To answer you question, here we would say something like Wyatt Thompson said above : the designer got his c…[Read more]

I am quite interested to know more about this add-on, as it is exactly the type of ‘work streamlining’ that I’m looking after.
I already use plant specific layers, blocks for trees, and getting all that on an excel sheet efficiently without having to define a library of blocks with attributes sounds just lovely.

I’d like to bump this thread and ask Scott what solution he is using now, and if he is satisfied with it.

when it’s a complex design I personally use hatch. Much easier, and the guys on site do a first readjustment where necessary. Then the plants take over and adjust themselves wonderfully.
Now, I’m quite curious to know how you ‘set an array path’, will look it up.

Goustan BODIN replied to the topic So How Are The Kids Doing? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 10 years, 11 months ago
Making mistakes is normal for anyone learning any job, and getting a first job experience or two is a regular thing to do. Gets everyone on their teeth, but it’s part of the learning process.
Now, kids cant stay kids too long in the office, if they want to progress and get a better position. Would that be the difference between ‘junior’ staff and up ?

Goustan BODIN replied to the topic What's your favorite Job Interview Question? in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 10 years, 11 months ago
In my sense, before you define the questions to ask, you should define accurately what duties you expect your applicant to be responsible for. What kind of skills are you looking for ? Which are the ones you really need and the ones that come second, or as a bonus.
