“Consider two people: one who earns $30,000 a year and spends all of it by necessity, and one who earns $500,000, spends $100,000 of it and saves or invests the remainder. Under Cain’s plan, the first person would pay an 18 percent tax on that…[Read more] -

I don’t think the idea is protecting you from yourself…rather protecting your property, the air you breath and the water you drink from the misdeeds of others. There are reasons regulations were enacted originally…precisely because a capitalist society with no regulations is dangerous to your health. Capitalism is great as long as there are…[Read more]

Cain is a part of the establishment as much as you would like to think he is a clean break from corruption. He said people that wanted an audit of the Fed didn’t know what they were talking about and it was unnecessary. Of course he worked for the Fed…he has plenty of advantageous political/corporate connections.
Additionally, his plan is not…[Read more] -

They would all be the same Steve. Consider that Romney is receiving more Wall Street donations then any other candidate currently. Consider that Cain expects someone making $20,000 to pay 9% tax…or that some of the contenders spent months questioning where Obama was born. You do a disservice to yourself defending one side at all. Defend neither…[Read more]

I don’t agree that there is a huge difference. These same banks own shares of the Fed. The Fed is not run by the government…there was even a court case where a guy tried to sue the US government when a Federal Reserve vehicle ran into him. The case was dismissed because the Federal Reserve is considered a private…[Read more]

Honestly, I am not sure that the writer knows what point he is trying to make. The part I latched onto was the low use of the park by citizens.
In regards to invasive species this is something Jon and I have discussed before. I do think there is a natural evolution that takes place and we are part of the global ecology. I think the line of…[Read more] -

Looks like it is in the wrong location to draw people. If this was located within a neighborhood I would imagine they would have had a greater likelihood of attracting users. I think some of these ideas are pretty stupid…the last thing I do when out and about is to read a huge paragraph on a sign designed to teach me something. I am more of the…[Read more]

Agreed! Who said we should stop learning? What we are questioning is whether an MLA will help her achieve her goals.

Honestly. I would not get the MLA. You are correct that even internships are hard to get…including for people with masters degrees. If you really must go into the field I would make sure that the MLA program gives you the same skills a BLA does. My husband went to a boot camp to study for the LAREs and met people that had gotten MLAs with no…[Read more]

I have another idea. Perhaps all unemployed LAs should go to Wall Street and do something like PARK(ing) http://rebargroup.org/parking/That would be awesome! haha…don’t know if you would have time to set something up before being tackled and sprayed. But hot d*mn…that would be an awesome protest and representation of landscape architecture.

I think this is a strange time in history. I highly suspect that we will look back one day and be shocked at how bad this has really been. I think depending where you live, the recession looks worse. I’m sorry you are feeling so discouraged, it is only natural that after so long you would feel hopeless. 🙁 Grab that bear spray like someone else mentioned!

I think there are a lot of opportunities like that around here. I did begin learning grant writing when I worked at the City and would have liked to become more proficient.

I’m still learning! I am still interested to hear how the relationship b/w the designer and contractor is communicated. Is it with a contract? Verbally?

For the women that have children and feel like your career stagnated. Do you have any ideas on what you could have done differently? Sometimes I wonder if I should go to school for an MBA as a sort of bridge between staying at home and working. Going to school is a lot more flexible…then again, the thought of student loans is just…blech.

I toy with the idea of an MBA…but the idea of the loans. 😛

I am a little confused. You are designing and then have a contractor you work with that builds your designs? Is it that unusual for contractors to make changes on a design? You are the project manager on this project it sounds like…so it is up to you to approach the contractor with your concerns. I guess I come at it from a different viewpoint…[Read more]
