Just want to give this a Bump since the last post were in 2012….. I am looking to taking the Florida Exam in the beginning of 2016. Any Advice on what to study?
May 27, 2014 at 2:54 pm #152660Jason GranadoParticipantthis has been somewhat an aggravating experience because of the conflicting arguments that i have been receiving. What we need is something like what NCARB offers for the architects.

Anyone want to help and make something like this, i will gladly donate time so others don’t have to go through this process.
May 27, 2014 at 2:44 pm #152661Jason GranadoParticipantSo I just spoke to the Department of Professional License for the state of Virginia and they said that yes three years of internship must be completed prior to sitting for the exams.
I also spoke to CLARB and they said that I first need to satisfy any state regulations and than contact them to proceed further with license.

Do you happened to know off the top of your head if I can begin taking my exams immediately or I need to complete the three years of internship prior to sitting for the exams? I called DPOR this morning and waiting to hear back.
Thanks again

lets just say the waac has its ups and downs. I think its a great school and a lot of educated people here, let me know when you are around and ill give you a tour. I hopefully will wrap this thesis up in December, but i still work and live in old town.
September 30, 2013 at 1:27 pm #153990Jason GranadoParticipantAre you down in Blacksburg or Alexandria? I am currently working on my thesis at VT in the Alexandria campus. I think your going to find that any Masters program is going to be heavy on research, that’s just the nature of the beast. I don’t think my masters program is directly teaching me how to become a better designer, but its geared more to understanding about landscapes and asking questions and thinking through the problem in an analytical and rigorous way. The vehicle you use to solve the problem is through design, there is only so much research one can do.
I also work at a firm, and have been all through graduate school and that’s really where I learned how to design. I learned how to draw documents and think through details. I do a lot of research at the firm, but it’s different than what I do in university. I feel it’s much more precise and finite, where university study I’m always asking why or what if.
I hope you stick at Tech because I love this university but if you don’t good luck on where ever you choose to go to.

If work is not near you, get near the work.(if you can) there is a few jobs here in DC area
I am a second year MLA student with a undergrad in architecture
October 25, 2011 at 4:21 pm #159614Jason GranadoParticipantEveryone thank you for the responses. this is some great information you all are providing.
This was a topic that I wanted to research, it is still very early in the game to really pin point what I want to do but I would love to stay within the realm of the military. I’ll be looking at some of the resoruces you guys gave me and will updating soon.
thanks again

October 11, 2011 at 2:12 pm #159842Jason GranadoParticipantYep same project but im not concentrated on fort circle park persay, im not looking to connect them physically but more so brand them with a common theme. at least thats what im after this moment.
my biggest hurdle right now is trying to find out what category do the forts fall into: they are all under the NPS but the NPS has sub category:
national monument
national park
national seashore
and so on…..
im just unsure which cat the forts fall under.
Ill update this post a little more today.
April 13, 2011 at 4:19 pm #163701Jason GranadoParticipantI think i wrote you a dissertation in response, lol but i do hope it helps out.
April 12, 2011 at 11:47 pm #163704Jason GranadoParticipantI’m currently also in my first year of MLA program at Vtech, in Alexadnira VA ( the waac) http://www.waac.vt.edu/
I love the school up here its small and much more intimate. It serves as a consortium school so there are many students that come here from all over the country and study for a semester or a year.
yes we are mixed in with the archiecture students. which is great there’s constantly a colab of ideas and projects. your first year you will be only with other MLA first years they call it your foundation studio.
the school is also very open to new ideas and has amazing electives that they offer.
being close to DC is also a large benefit we always metro into the city for site visits. if you have any more questions drop me a line.
