If you are into planning or urban design, you can go back to school and become an urban economist (yes, there is such a thing).

The funeral industry is in retraction as the industry consolidates into huge corporations that buy up family funeral homes and run several with the same staff.

I’ve often wondered that mysefl with coincil record money…and having to pay AGAIN every time you have them transmit the info. Does it really cost that much to keep a few k worth of electronic files on a PC? I know there are overhead costs, but geez. Thats is what is keeping me from getting a counil record. I’ll pay for the record storage, or…[Read more]

Thought about it…and then I thought go into what? Spend more money educating myself in something that doesn’t promise any better chance of employment. I could change jobs for a while…but not careers. At this point, there really isn’t anything safe to go into!

I looked up the ARE transition plan to make sure I had the fact correctly…after such a date and you had taken at least ONE 3.1 level exam, you had ONE YEAR to complete the remainder 3.1 tests. If you did not, you had to refer to a chart to see which test(s) you had to take which 4.0 level exams were the equivalent. However, they gave…[Read more]

You (and anybody else in the middle of taking the tests) might want to contact CLARB and tell them the new timeframe just doesn’t work. If you already have the exam substantially completed, and the previous set of exams gave you a set time in which to complete them once started, I would hold them to that agreement. NCARB gave architects several Y…[Read more]

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Opinion on Which Core i7 Processor? in the forum TECHNOLOGY 14 years, 6 months ago
I’ve always built my own PCs until recently…namely my last PC, which I purchased in September. I ended up getting a refurb HP Elite with a Quad Core Phenom II 64 (the fastestest clock speed …they also make a six-core). It has 8 gig of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive, Blu-Ray w/ 1080p HDMI graphics card…the thing is lightning fast, althought I plan…[Read more]

$1200??? O…U…C…H! And that course probably carries no credits either. I concur with the rest of the bunch; skip it. Photoshop is particularly easy to pick up once you understand the menus and structure of the program. I also agree with Henry, practice is the best way to learn the programs. Second would be to learn from an expert outside a…[Read more]

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic Portfolio – max pages per project? in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 14 years, 6 months ago
What I have been doing is sneding a cut-sheet (8 pages – 8.5×11) that I have printed on 11×17 and folded as a “portfolio” I can leave or send in the mail. I has smaller pictures and text description, only one project per page. Then I have an 11×17 portfolio with no more than two facing pages per project. I like the 11×17 size because you can…[Read more]

It can depend on the firm. A smaller firm in which you will likely have more immediate input may look closer at your design chops in the hopes that they can pass along some design work to you right away, as I did with my assistants. I didn’t want just a draftsman. If you are going to a mid-size or larger firm, you will be drawing other people’s de…[Read more]

Not at all, there has been long period of significant and increasing declines in the ABI (at least 5 months now), that is a trend. I was not dismissive of the ABI, I was dismissive of the growth. What I was referring to with “track record” is that due to its frequency, just like any snapshot index (including the stock market and the weekly…[Read more] -

With the site section of the ARE, they have a kind of built-in CAD function specific for that question. Say, for grading, they have contours there, you have to slide them around and make a proper swale and terminated them correctly. I, however, am sad to see the hand-drawn part of the exam go, and I would be fine with just one section of it that…[Read more]
