The 500 is the 800’s little brother, and is available up to a 42″ width as well. The difference is in the resolution. The 500 goes up to 1200dpi, and the 800 is 2400dpi. I looked at both before I ordered them for the firm I was working for (we had 2 of them), and the 500 was still not the best in terms of droplet size or smoothness of color, which…[Read more]

You could try to find a higher-model refurb or used model. I always liked the HP DesignJet 800PS. You can get the carriage up to 42″, the print quality is excellent and it is pretty quick. Never had any major problems with them. You might be able to find one for a grand or so (originally about $8K), and should serve you well for many years.…[Read more]

You do understand that computers, like a pencil and a drafting board with a parallel or drafting machine.. are just TOOLS. It is how you use them. They are just a different means to the same end. No different than a framer asking if a certain cordeless reciprocal saw is good or not…moving well on from a handsaw and making the job easier, f…[Read more]

I agree, go back to 7. As for a workstation, it isn’t all the necessary if you buy a high-end PC from the manufacturer. They tend to use better components in the better PCs. (HP has their Envy or Pavilion Elites – Dell has their Inspiron- the cheapest, the Optiplex – the middle of the road business machine, and the Precision-their workstation).…[Read more]

Jason T. Radice replied to the topic pool construction details in the forum DETAILS & MATERIALS 11 years, 4 months ago
Some of what you seek can be found in your local pool codes as far as steps and such, and gunnite pools are pretty simple if done in one shot with no seams or gaps where you would need waterstops. They are pretty much a hole, rebar, and shooting the concrete to a specific depth. You can find some pretty good details in some pool books or just do a…[Read more]

Good eye! I’m thinking they dumped a bunch more soil in there to plant what look to be seed impatiens (which they should NOT have planted this year with the disease and all). If you blowed up the pickiture by clicking on it, you will also see that these trees are STAKED. To what, exactly? I don’t know.

If y’all are interested, I can get more photos next time I drive out there. The grocery store in that development is the only place in the region that carries my preferred brand of imported Italian finely grated sheeps milk hard cheese.

I think they had their fun making giant mulch berms. They even have them on BOTH sides of the sidewalk in the middle of the parking lot that connects the huge grocery store to the fake main street, with parking on both sides of it. You mount the mulch just to use the sidewalk. Oh, and them planters (30″ diameter) also are at the intersections,…[Read more]

You ain’t kiddin’. This is a pretty big development with a Target, a theater, a fake poorly done “main street’ and a huge grocery store. There are probably a few hundred of these planters with trees in them on site. All the parking shade trees and decorative Crape Myrtles are in them, the line the sidewalks, and actually block vehicular views at…[Read more]

Fascinating question! I’d love to see an answer to this, particularly for architects which already have an ego problem.
Seeing it from both sides (giving AND receiving) brutal crits in school, you come to realize that it is a most valuable part of the education process. You learn from your mistakes and learn to give substantive reason in defending…[Read more] - Load More
