The prob. this year is that the GOP just does not have a charismatic candidate. Bummer. In a system built on compromise you just can’t have the perfect candidate.

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Greenroof Turfgrass in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 2 months ago
Remember that most not all green roofs are essentially alpine gardens. Full sun, lean soil, potentially limited water, windswept, etc. There are turf species that do well in that situation and as you stated fescues are one that will work.

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic wetlands effects on health in the forum SUSTAINABILITY & DESIGN 12 years, 2 months ago
Locally we have experienced deaths from an amoeba that comes from swimming in contaminated wetlands. Swimmers itch is another one that comes from swimming is wetlands. Depending on where you are at a wetland is habitat for animals that you may not want in your development. I heard a story about how a snake crawled out of a swamp and into someones…[Read more]

WOW. Landplanner that was an extremely rude response. Please respond with respect if you are going to be talking politics on a professionally centered discussion board.
Oh you did say respect before you started the name calling. -

Remember that the field of Landscape Architecture also provides services to private developers. If the R/R ticket cuts taxes to spur development that would also benefit the field. We are not all working on public projects.
Politics are really funny on Land8. -

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Not what I signed up for in the forum EDUCATION 12 years, 4 months ago
Much of the computer programs and graphic techniques that I learned in school where on my own, but were inspired by a class project. I think that is the norm for a University Design Education. You are generally taught the abstract theory behind design and then are expected to apply these things to your projects. Most Autocad classes do not teach…[Read more]

It is always difficult in these situations. You have a client that you want to keep and get referrals from, but you don’t want to lose all your income on this project.
It is always best to be up front on these things in the beginning and legal action is probably over kill. The client may not even know they are doing something wrong. So make sure…[Read more] -

Another edge I always wanted to try is vinyl paver patio edging. If installed deep enough can give you a similar look.

A.It can pose a danger is not maintained. If it is damaged by a lawn mower or is heaved out of the ground. It will cut instead of crushing like plastic edging.
B. Alternatives, I like concrete bullets if installed correctly. Also there is a vinyl edging that looks like the steel. Designed so you do not see the bead on top of the grass. Also…[Read more] -

Jordan Lockman replied to the topic Quality control of multiple garden landscape installation teams in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 5 months ago
I think that the best thing you can do is to treat the installers like they have a career too. The best foremen I ever worked with were in the business for multiple decades and prided themselves in the work they did. It was not just a summer gig for them it was their career. They went to the same education sessions I did and were very…[Read more]

It is good to have an open mind, but also to realize that designing backyards is landscape architecture, just at a smaller scale.
