Nice Craig! I wish we all could take a few years to pursue our dreams. Do you think your time on the bikes or with your bass has changed how you think/ work at Landscape Architecture?

We are doing a design competition at this years LaBash in Las Vegas. It will be more like a charette because of the short time frame, but should still be pretty cool.

I’m with Les on this one. It feels like buying a Hybrid to save some emissions. You are paying way more money, consuming even more materials, and getting rid of a perfectly good car.
It does look really cool though.

A super effective and relatively cheap option is to take the local community college plant class. Here in Las Vegas they always have not for credit courses offered throughout the year. You could also contact the local extension service. Their plant guru’s will likely know who to talk to or where to look. Good luck.

In every Landscape journal i’ve read they use more than their fair share of the words paradigm and milieu.

definitely. I actually hate the word now that I’ve heard it so much and I’m not sure that most people can even design a sense of place. I guess thats getting into another topic altogether.

Landon Davidson replied to the topic "Legacy" landscape architecture practices being purchased by large publicly traded corporations… in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 15 years, 3 months ago
I think the small firms could benefit from these larger firm mergers. Landscape Architecture lacks adequate global and national awareness. Larger corporate firms have the ability to do higher profile jobs and/ or efective marketing, that would make landscape architecture more of a brand name profession. There is the danger of losing professional…[Read more]

Hey Charles, Its good to have you in the group. How do you feel about this narrowing of role? Do you think that if we still had more of a role in related fields that there would be more work currently available for landscape architects? If you want you could start a discussion about it. I think it would be interesting to see what we could learn…[Read more]

I feel your pain Nick. On more than one occasion I have been scolded for not living up to the REGULATIONS. I think the problem is with the American people. We have let too many activists and politicians decide what is good for us. Granted there should be some protection against people infringing on the rights of others but the nerf world we’ve…[Read more]

Ha ha great points Andrew. It sounded pretty good at first but your points bring it into reality. The idea might be good on a conceptual basis. It could excite more people back into gardening at home and also bring a new dimension to the green roof culture.
Do you have any stats on trains vs. semi trucks?

Good point about the weight. My father in-law is a general superintendant in California and they are always remodeling those type of stores. Maybe then they could beef up the structure.

An architecture project currently underway that you can look at is The Lou Ruvo Brain Institute designed by Frank Gehry. You should be able to find some of their research criteria. It looks pretty cool but I question whether his wacky design helps or aggravates brain disorders.
