mauiBob replied to the topic Difference between working in private vrs. public sector in LA in the forum GENERAL DISCUSSION 12 years, 9 months ago
Interesting trend. There sure is plenty of myths from so-called “private” sector employees about people who currently work in the public. During the leans times of 2009 & 2010, I don’t know of any public workers who were reading magazines to make use of their time. In fact, it was the opposite since the cad technicians and assistants were the…[Read more]

Golf course???!! Probably one of the WORST things you can do to the environment is designing a golf course that only a bunch of filthy rich folks can play!

Craig, be sure to read my comment above to Ida who lives in Beijing but profile reads San Fran. Did I mention, he’s also a traitor? He shouldn’t be allowed back into the States!

Ida and Craig:
If you would Goggle “China highways” and use the images tab to show you the horrific traffic jams in the country! You live in Beijing, Ida? Follow the link below and even L.A. has never seen this bad of smog! I think all the pollution is beginning to cloud your brain cells! Nice way of making a living by being a traitor! No job security? Tell that to Dan Inouye, Hawaiian Senator since 1954!!
I’m just being a little dramatic, Craig. LA not dead…yet. LOL. Example: I’m looking at a plan right now of a proposed new development on Maui. Kihei high school plan has no landscape architect on board. Just Arch and Civil. The architect did all the fancy graphics, concept…[Read more]

Ida,
True that Beijing and Shanghai can = L.A. or NYC. But, only on a small scale. Look at this photo of a highway in Shanghai. Not even the worst LA traffic has looked this horrible. I don’t think our manufacturers used lethal chemicals in the making of toy products either. Guess where America ships its poisonous mountain of old cathode ray…[Read more] -

Are you kidding me?! Absolutely not. It was ignored as if it was some type of plague. Everyone walking around and thinking they were the important LAs in the profession.

I was going to make a comment about it too. I had to look at my calendar to make sure it wasn’t already April 1st. Maui county is advertising for two positions as engineering drafters which pay more. If prospective students see this Houston job, they should be running away from it.

Craig, he’s not out of the woods just yet! I wrote about a certain LA in Honolulu who was working in China back in 2010. In short, he was doing okay for 5 months until the firm just stopped paying him! But, they told him he would get a check soon; however, he never did receive one. To his fault, he kept working for additional two months and…[Read more]

By end of 2014, it will be 100% unemployed, because the profession will be obsolete. Prepare for a another career…now or perish!! The Planners, Architects and Engineers are taking over as I see it in my current job.

Watch out for China!!!
I know someone (Landscape Architect) from Honolulu who worked there in 2010. Things were going smoothly for 5 months, then suddenly the firm stopped paying him. To his fault, he kept working and was explained he would be paid soon. It went on for 2 months and he finally gave up. Where could he go and who to seek for advice?…[Read more]

Tonie, Don’t agree too much! The health insurance suggestion is, well, won’t work. Read Jason’s comment below. Otherwise, State of New Mexico would get a huge surge for health insurance. Good thing I read everyone’s comment before responding and thus, avoiding repeating verbiage.

There was a group of tourists yesterday on a helicopter tour of the island. It crashed in the mountains and killed all five passengers including the pilot. A tragedy.

When the top 1% control 65% of the nation’s wealth, there’s something wrong with the system. Cain is a politician or wanna be from the GOP. Of course, he’s looking out for the wealthy first.
