It’s a bumper sticker democracy.
I listen to what I would consider ‘propaganda’ from both sides almost every day in the workplace. I almost never divulge my opinion. What’s the old saying? ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.’
I like to think the people I come in contact with everyday can’t even guess where I stand, right or left.…[Read more]

I was just guessing really, I’m not that clever. I was thinking it looked like the one on the cover of that film about the woman who finds the Pollock in a garage sale.

By the way Johnson….faux! to that Pollock. **

I thin a lot of offices are run by both partners with ‘business sense,’ whether they have an MBA or not, as well as ‘designers.’
An design office run by MBA’s has disaster written all over it in my opinion, unless the MBA’s also have a background and experience in design, of which I think there are few because people with MBA’s tend to want to…[Read more]

I think the proverbial ship has sailed with regard to Dubai, but I may be wrong.
I think the rumors of huge salaries and amazing contracts may have been hype, too by and large.

That some good constructive criticism, Tim, thanks!
I was in a rush to get a copy of this out the other day only to print it after I had sent it digitally to find that some of the images were lower resolution like you mentioned. I also noticed some of the spacing issues–are you saying you also do not like ‘full bleed’ images or that there is…[Read more]

Here is my current portfolio, Tim and anyone else still following this thread.
I’d love to get some feedback.
The hardest part in creating this last version was cutting out 80% of my work.

I have the same questions Ashish, but have found difficulty getting answers. We’ll see if anyone chimes in.

Thanks Alessandro.
That’s reassuring and at least in part what I expected.

Thanks for the wise words Andrew.
David–I take it you’re alluding mainly to licensure? I agree. Eventually, I’d like to finsih the degree and become licensed.

I absolutely know where you’re coming from Mandy.
If I could afford to, I would probably go to grad school as well. Though I may go for something like urban design/planning or even engineering. But I get what you’re saying about ‘reigniting/restarting’ I feel the same way, the only difference being that I feel I just need to keep searching for my…[Read more]

I could take the math at community college, but we’re talking about something in the realm of $600 per course and it’s difficult to find the exact courses you need at the right times, especially with something as exacting as math. I don’t want to air my dirty laundry here too much, so I wont go into the specifics, but there are other reqs that I…[Read more]

In colorado its B(s)LA + 2 or 3 years.I think that’s probably reasonable..I guess..and 8-10 years without a degree..which seems sort of absurd, like CLARB is placating to academia. There sin’t much correlation in my opinion between what I ‘hear’ is tested for on the LARE and academic curriculum, but what do I know?
Not to be a debbie-downer, but…[Read more]

That’s a great article Mandy! And not just because it supports my position, because I’m already in a deep whole of debt from lots of higher education.
I would agree that it is NOT equitable in many cases for students these days to attend college unless they have a specific career in mind, which usually doesn’t happen until later in…[Read more]

Thanks Tanya, that’s good to hear. Since I’ve asked here and at other sites I’ve read several similar responses, which is encouraging. I have less than a year, maybe a semester worth of courses–math mostly, lol. So far I’ve been getting by just fine without the math–land use calcs, floor area ratios, grading–I’ve designed probably more than a…[Read more]

The thing is I’m working and saving money and facing huge loan debt. So, I would need to stop that income flow and pay tuition out of pocket. So, it’s pretty much not an option at this point.
I think in Colorado the rule is something like ten years under a licensed LA to sit without degree. I would think I could appeal for less time or at least…[Read more]

I’ve meant to get out to Pawnee for a while now, just can’t seem to talk myself into making that right, north up I-25 and east across the plains each weekend when the mountains call me. Not to disclose my own secret bat location, but I’m only a few blocks from the Denver Botanic Gardens..no excuse not to get up there more either.

“So, we take the jungle gyms away from the fat, McDonald’s- Bloated youth of America and replace it with a place where the kids SIT and think about becoming architects and engineers? I would love to have more background in civil design.
We do alot of ‘community planning’ (ie subdivisions) and larger scale site and landscape planning/design and in all those types of projects I would like to have a stronger background in civil. That said, I don’t think I’d want to dig into all the minutiae of civil engineering — stromwater…[Read more]
