nca replied to the topic Wacom Cintiq 13HD in the forum TECHNOLOGY 11 years, 1 month ago
I owned one, sold it and went back to intuos 5 touch. Cintiq felt too small for detail work, low resolution, and cumbersome with the ac converter etc. Also the distance between the tip of the stylus and cursor due to glass thickness kind of annoyed me. Waiting to try 24.

nca replied to the topic Question about fee structure. in the forum PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE 11 years, 1 month ago
While i have heard the 7-10% figure used for fee estimates i dont think its practical to use in proposals. Id agree that projects under 30k youd probably want to come up with some minimum fee, say $1000 for schematic plan(s) only. Projects over 100,000 you might want to begin to graduate your fee as well. It is conceivable that a 50k project takes…[Read more]

or save 2 or 3 grand and pick up a note or one of the dozen or so other tablets on the market already using wacom technology. No doubt though the wacom tablet will be the best for creating finished graphics and artwork. <y samsun tab, cost $450 uses a stylus made by wacom with 512 levels. The ipads dont support wacom tech, yet, so using a stylus…[Read more]

Sure i could probably use a butter knife to turn a screw, but i’d rather use a screwdriver. See my point?

Samsung note 10.1 is what i use. We also have an ipad. The not is head and shoulders above the ipad in terms of funtionality. It comes with a pressure sensitive stylus but i also bought a wacom bamboo stylus for sketching. I use the tab for quick ideas and some sketching, not taking, markups, etc.
Id highly recommend a tab similar to the note…[Read more] -

Very cool indeed. Thinking creatively about marketing and self-promotion will serve you well in your career. I created a similar video when I was a student. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXKGNRKXM-M

Rob–
The young kids are great. It’s the old ones that cause the problems. They are unable or unwilling to learn new techniques, crotchety, and smell like old people.

nca replied to the topic Steel Edging in the forum DETAILS & MATERIALS 11 years, 5 months ago
the older type that came with black plastic cap is dangerous as the plastic cap peels off leaving the sharp raw edge exposed. There is steel or aluminum ‘rolled-top’ edging now that is much safer as long as you are sure ends are secured and/or even filed smooth(er). I use it and have for quite a while. The trick with metal edging is installing it…[Read more]

nca replied to the topic Who's using a Cintiq? in the forum TECHNOLOGY 11 years, 6 months ago
FYI– I did own a cintiq 12wx and hated it for myriad reasons, one of which was the lag between pen and screen when doing things like hatching, the small amount of offset between pen and graphic due to glass thickness, the dull colors on the cintiq vs screen and just the small screen size/resolution. Also it was a pain because I often switch…[Read more]

Its 10pm here and I am just wrapping up my work day, so excuse the shorhand–
I’ve wanted to write a graphics book for a couple years now and have even gotten as far as writing a 20 page book proposal, but it kind of died there. I think you make a great point, maybe work WILL die off and I can dust off that book proposal.
In some ways I fell…[Read more]

no software will or should make the design process easier.
Autocad lt I hear is a good, economical option. Then there is vecterworks and the dept store programs. You can do anything in photoshop.
