Francis, I put my entire design into sketch up for two reasons; to actually check my design (scale, feel etc), and secondly to help do perspective sketch views.

Robert, I was meaning that I do hand render enough to keep my skills sharp, yes I still can do it, but at least for me, it takes some time to remember all the tricks.

nrschmid is correct, autocad is the number one program to learn , IMHO. The rest are
2. Photoshop
3. Sketchup
4. Indesign (this is for proposals and includes photoshop) -

i agree with that, but as soon as development picks back they will not hire LA’s if they can just use the PE of record.

Another way the ASLA could help is to lobby states to enforce the practice acts. Almost every zoning code i see see says” plans are to be sealed by a landscape architect or engineer of record” . In most communities a engineer and/or architect can sign landscape plans.

i know of a civil that is currently going for his MBA. The company he is with said they would pay half, but because of the economy they stopped paying. Now he doesnt have enough to finish and 15 thousand dollar load to boot.
