Nothing in La Jolla is really tacky, Heather, that wasn’t really the point..Yes, I am one of the one million population of SD, and yes I lived on a seaside cliff..I probably should have voted with my feet and chosen not to live in a gorgeous spot..But I did my part to not increase the population of SD, by choosing not to have kids….”there i…[Read more]

nah..backwards, as usual..Co-operation is a necessity..Compare the chaotic response to Katrina, vs. civilized Japanese response to their disaster..We had cops shooting black people, in our ‘freedom first’ society..Not happening in Japan..
There must be a balance between co-operation and individual freedoms, obviously, but our problems right now…[Read more] -

ref. to dr. w/ gloves just a random observation – he was weird, very intense, and the only person I actually know who made money in stock market..

can we design landscapes that catch the stuctures before they slide into the sea, thus preventing all the incredible debris we throw into the ocean..Although apparently the plastic gyre while frustruting, is apparently not as bad a pollutant as nuclear power plants and air-born toxics..You can make it look pretty – p ossibly, – but you can’t call…[Read more]

right, the oil market makes sense…I recomend Antonia Juhaz, The Tyranny of Oil.. I have friends who are in the stock market, and I cannot understand how they sit around geussing what the market is reacting to, while sitting in Virginia…If you are not on Wall Street, you can’t even begin to geuss what is going around, andeven they don’t know,…[Read more]

you didn’t see any of the “bear sterns is a BUY!” jim cramers shots that Jon stewart absolutely skewered..
anyone who uses sound effects is trying too hard..

first – I pay into retirement, and social security. I will probably have paid for you when you are destitute, laying in the street, and get the social security check at the po box you have registered. Second, the state retirement is not enough to live on, and I am 54 and have three years under my belt..do the numbers..
the private sector gets…[Read more] -

Many misconceptions, TJ..Unionized worker do NOT make more than non-union..And in describing what you have for benefits, why do you want everyone down at your level? Wouldn’t it make more sense to bring the whole society up to the modest benefits unions afford their workers? You cannot tell me that a teacher job is cushy..that is r…[Read more]

Lots of history to cemetary design..In new england, always put them on the hilltops, for drainage. The beautiful Green-wood Cemetary in Brooklyn, with many famous people buried there, emblematic of the park -style of design that became popular at that time..

this I don’t get – amost 40% of americans work for government, and right-wingers insist that government doesn’t create jobs..I don’t get it..
and government provides incentives, for the most part, for private groups to build affordable housing – usually a percentage of a project, to provide for mixed levels of income living together..

David, my dear, that is the point – companies SHOULD NOT care for the public good, for the commons, other than as it will affect the long-term bottom line..THE GOVERNMENT CARES FOR THE COMMONS..it is a balance..!!! Private is good, but government is ESSENTIAL to protect communal rights..
to balance corporate greed..
