World’s First Underground Park Nears Reality in NYC: NY Daily News 8
While it’s been talked about for years, New York’s first subterranean park is closer than ever to reality. Although the complete park will be constructed along an abandoned subway line, comprised of three city blocks, the first phase is above ground and just opened to the public. Titled the Lowline Lab, it’s situated inside the former Essex Fair Retail Market warehouse and demonstrates solar technology to the public. Ultimately, the park’s founders hope to finish the underground park by 2020—with a hefty price tag of between $60 and $75 million. “It’s incredibly inspiring and motivating to know that this isn’t one person’s fantasy project, it’s actually a collaboration with a lot of people,” said Dan Barasch, co-founder.
