I got reciprocity from Idaho to Massachusetts. I know that reinstatement for Idaho was a different rate than renewal.
I would recommend finding a state with low registration fees and no education credits and maintain a license in that state (Massachusetts, believe it or not, is currently a good option for that – no ed credits and under a hundred…[Read more]

I think you are exactly right James. This is the only point of fact. The rest of the opinions, although many are not necessarily wrong, are based on perception or generalization rather than quantitative fact.

From my understanding you need to contact your original state licensing committee since each state licensing requirements differ. I believe that some allow you to suspend it until you start working as an LA again however some require you to pay back fees so double check.
Also Clarb is an awesome way to maintain your records and well worth your…[Read more]

A lot of you seem to be missing the point here. Landscape design is being referred to by many as a small part of what the landscape Architect does. The Urban designer and city planner would also probably think of landscape architecture as a small part of what they do. Sociologists have it over all of us in that sense as they are concerned with all…[Read more]

First I’m a dinosaur, I took the UNE (precurser to the LARE) in 1986 in NJ. THis was before the advent of the CLARB (I think). But I believe to obtain licensure through reciprocity you will need to have a current, active license in another state. I obtained my original license in NJ, got my PA license via reciprocity (fairly easy at the time) and…[Read more]

Look up any state’s reciprocity requirements that you might be going to. Most accept direct reciprocity with any other state that has similar requirements for licensure, although New York does not play well with others with reciprocity, from what I was told.

While I am not registered and working on the LARE, I find CLARB to be a great help now and in the forseeable future. I have in the past let my CLARB record lapse. When reinstated it was to the tune of $500 + the yearly fee. Since I an currently unemployed I do find it difficult to keep up on the cost associated with membership. For now as I am…[Read more]

Since you asked, and in my humble opinion, for us LA’s this is dealing on governmental concept levels, having more to do with taxes than design.
But of course I am not bereft of opinions at that level..Personally I don’t like Nick Gillespie, have seen him speak fairly often – generally to me Libertarian ideas seem half-baked..There is not a real…[Read more] -

I worked at OvS for the last 8 years. They do nice work. I was really blown away by Teardrop Park. And the Highline was a groundbreaking project–not perfect, but a different type of park. Tomorrow in my blog I’m featuring:

JT: I don’t know this person personally but…. In the Spring/Summer Sav-a-Tree mail-out, in the ‘My Favorite’ section, a Barbara Paca, PhD, ASLA, notes that her favorite tree is Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropunicea,’ and signs herself as a “Landscape Designer,” employed by (owner of?) Preservation Green, LLC (NYC).
So there’s at least one LA who is…[Read more]

I tried to think of a design or designer (firm) that really gave me goosebumps, but much of the work I’ve only seen in pictures….Teardrop Park by MVVA, when I saw photos of it, struck me as far and away one of the best and most creative new projects I had seen in a long long time. I always love Oehme and VanSweden projects – I don’t think I’ve…[Read more]
